Complaint thread about speaker measurements

@amirm
I would like a short listening impression but before the measurement. Take a reference like the 305, give short impression, than meassure. Use 5 mins for that , make a mixed musik track for that. Just a mono AB impression in the garage.

Think I concur with this, subjective impression prior to the information/knowledge provided by measurement.

I thought I had a brief moment of dyslexia and read this thread title as 'complaint' rather than 'compliant', but no.

I think Amir is best placed in management to comment/reply re the content of this thread. Sorry Thomas, nothing personal. Do I need to keep adding disclaimers? o_O

AMIR buy the licenses or whatever you need, I will contribute, ASR is the only completely independent review/measurement site, let us ( the royal us) make it beyond reproach.
Criticism is easy to actually get off your arse , much more difficult.
Keith

Constructive criticism is not easy here. If you can contribute money, fine - it doesn't preclude opinions and informed comment, though. Sheesh.

I can’t speak for Amir, but if it I simply a question of purchasing a license and adding another automated procedure I can’t see that being an issue, I am sure we would all contribute financially to that wouldn’t we Wombat/restorer John?

Cost/benefit case would be a good start. Remember that this 'adventure' was a personal pursuit for Amir. It was never going to be significantly funded by members, as wishful they may well be.

If you believe that all members can cough up the dosh as readily as yourself, then think again, sport.

Anyhow, any intellectual contribution on the topic from you is welcome. ;)

Shame on you.

I had no involvement in the birth and implementation of this project. Opinions were called for. For better or worse they were given, not so freely in some cases.

I have no shame here. I also have no vested interest. Tuck it in, Keith.

When I joined this forum, membership was not conditional on subsidising an APxxxx or an over-the-top Klippel rig. Please enlighten me if this has changed. If not, cut the crap, guys.

Still relatively new here, but why is this stirring so much passion??

Its just speaker measurements, not life and death....

No, just expression of member views. Censorship is the sticking point.

If you look at the OP, this thread was doomed from the start.

@amirm and peeps are creating a standardized system that will be used for all future measures and people get passionate about it. It's just human nature.

We should see this positiv. Meassuring Speakers is a much more emotionale thing. Dac's and Amps are nice, but speakers are somehow different.

Measuring is methodical and not emotional, even for speakers.

You have absolutly no idear how emotional i would get when i have to lift 50kg to a podest for meassuring.
But joke by side.

We knew loudspeaker testing was going to be a whole other ball-game. My suggestion at the time it floated as a possibility, was to stay out of it altogether- either do it comprehensively or not at all.

Are you seriously suggesting that the current set of measurements Amir is doing is not worth the hassle? It absolutely is. We are all complaining that more measurements could be done, but that doesn't change the fact that the measurements Amir is currently doing (i.e. off-axis and on-axis frequency response) more than justify the expense of time, money and effort already. Even if Amir refuses to do SPL or THD measurements, even if he keeps making silly jokes about reference axes, I will still strongly support him in this endeavor and I will keep donating for as long as he keeps measuring speakers. Because it's still way, way, way better than nothing.

Let's not lose track of the big picture here. SPL figures would be nice, but saying that speaker measurements are worthless if they don't have them is just silly, and in strong contradiction with published research.
