I have a ton of gear laying around and figured id take a shot at putting together a good comp so here goes

venue: my living room

band: the good ol' Grateful Dead performing Franklin's Tower from 8/13/75 (officially released as "One From The Vault")

playback rig: digital in to Benchmark DAC2 HGC>balanced out to Dynaudio BM15A active monitors, on stands, approx. 5' center to center. max SPL measured at 96 dB at mics. volume backed off slightly from clipping indicator on monitors lighting, and volume kept constant for all tests

recording rig front end: DPA 4011ES pair mounted ORTF simulating close field recording situation. 3' from monitors, the wide ORTF pattern was pointing out well past the outer edges of the monitor cabinets

recording rig back end: anything and everything i had laying around my house. all-in one 24 bit and 32-bit recorders. at least 7 different ADCs, a few different dedicated preamps were used in some takes

recording notes: 48K 24 bit used on all takes apart from a few 32 bit devices (known/tested to sound the same at either 24/32) were at 32 bit. Nothing was resampled and all takes were recorded at similar volume and digitally normalized in post to same RMS. All but two takes were recorded within +/- 3dB of the target, two were a little low and were normalized 4.5 dB and 6.5 dB respectively

where gain was adjustable on preamps / recorders it was typically ran in the range of 25-35 dB for most so its pretty typical of my experience field recording

This isnt a studio environment so if you hear low level noise its far more likely it is my fridge than any noise floor in the gear
backend setups ranged form north of $2K to sub-$200... state of the art equipment and some that's over two decades old... ones that fit in your pocket vs classic designs we hauled heavy SLA batteries to run. can you pick em out? what do you like about the different sources and why? ill give it a few days before i post the key.

comp 1 is 4 sources and was my tester setup. a little farther out and not strictly ORTF. 4011 capsules into two different kinds of mic bodies and two different recorders, with a preamp thrown in for good measure

comp 2 is a fixed ORTF mount and identical conditions for all 11 takes

alternative is to drop these into a multichannel wav editor and toggle pairs on and off
