I have a simple use-case: I want to listen to music played from my laptop. My phones are either HD650 or Etymotic ER4. I don't intend to invest in planars in the near future, or pick any headphone which is extremely high-current and difficult to drive. I may not buy the Truthear Crinacle Zero, which I believe has a really low impedance of 10 Ohm. I may buy full-size 300 Ohm headphones in future. I am not interested in MQA at all, and may get some DSD files in future -- I have none at present. 99% of my files are CD-quality FLAC.

In that case, I am unable to see the difference between the DX3 Pro+ and DX7 Pro+. This is the output power from the DX3 Pro+:

And this is the same section of the specs from the DX7 Pro+.

There are many other differences, in connections, features, etc, but I am not able to see any of them making a difference in my use-case.

One big issue is the availability of balanced headphone sockets -- the DX3 Pro+ has none. But then, I thought the whole point of getting balanced sockets and cables was in case the single-ended connections didn't deliver sufficient power. The DX7 Pro+ does not deliver any extra power through balanced compared to its unbalanced, and the DX3 does not have any balanced out, and what it delivers through its single-ended socket is roughly the same as the DX7.

Do you feel there is any reason for me to pay the premium for the DX7 in my use-case? My special confusion is with the balanced sockets -- why does one need them if one is getting more than enough power through single-ended?

No and you don't .

Thanks for a very short and sweet answer. I'll soon place an order for the DX3.

I was looking at the Topping G5 battery powered DAC-amp, and that too has the same "feature" -- identical power rating for balanced and single-ended:
