Unless they're back to back I struggle to tell the difference between one speaker to another by the time you've stopped the music and switched cables from one set of speakers to another.

I have a budget pair of Wharfedale 9.1's as a desktop setup in one room and feel like they sound an awful lot better than a far more expensive pair of speakers in another room but that may be because one is close field compared to the other.

I'm tempted to buy a cheap speaker switch but before I do I'd be interested to hear how others compare their speakers?

Many moons ago (when I was a young lad) I used to go to a specialised HiFi shop (Unilet in New Malden) and they had a wall of speakers and a remote control and spotlights in the ceiling that highlighted the speakers you were playing .... brilliant system and you instantly heard which you prefered.

If anone has any other ideas on testing them back to back in a home environment I'd be really interested to hear how to?

I retailed home audio gear for ~9 years and repaired the stuff for another ~15 years and found that there is no substitute for a switchbox. Go buy one and do it all properly. :D Amazon has many and the prices are reasonable.

I'm currently comparing a pair of Emotiva B1+ to my old 1988 Infinity RS2000's. I pulled out my old (preHDMI) AVR which has an A/B switch. I think there could still be an issue with efficiency that causes some SPL diff.

The Infinity's sound better BTW...

I'm guessing the Infinities are a bit brighter sounding. Nice speakers I always liked them too.

The B1+'s sound like mud in comparison. I thought it would be the other way around.

Interesting. Infinity was making some nice speakers of the era. I had long term experience with the Kappa series and I think they are wonderful speakers. :D The 9's are fun as can be to listen to. I really liked them at the time.
