Arendal showed that very small decent bookshelf's(1961) are doable but is there anything that even compares to them that is roughly the same size? given they are discontinued and incredibly hard to source secondhand in the uk, looking for some speakers that are only 6-7 inches max in depth that would be comparable.

Comparable in price as well?

Edit: If so, then take a look at the Genelec 8030C.

Here's a size comparison:

Only issue is that the Genelec is rear vented, so needs some room between it and the wall.

My bad I meant passive speaker, I have up to £1000 to spend but am struggling to find anything close for a small 5.1.4 setup, will be using the small bookshelf as my left and right main but only have 7 inches depth. Genelec I see recommended all the time for active speakers and they would be my first choice

Have you tried asking if someone's selling second hand on forums or their facebook group? Here is a link to the group in case you're not already a part of it: Facebook group

I have tried joining but the owner never accepts so I cant join, bit annoying to gatekeep a facebook group.

Look for "on wall speakers".

Even in you don't want to mount them on the wall, these will fulfill your requirements.

Though unfortunately, barely any of them have been properly measured.

Also, avoid 2-way MTM designs.

I am currently looking at xtz spirt 6 https://www.xtzsound.eu/spirit6?lng=en#!/Spirit-6-Matte-Black/p/384936067 for left and right, I can get a used pair under £200. Their cinema m6 line was also an option but at £1250 for a pair and given I never listen at loud volumes I feel like its wasted. Its hard to balance cost vs use. I could spend up to £1000 but not sure if I'm getting the extra spend for better sound lol.

Currently using dali fazon sat paired with an r2 meta while I shop around and it sounds great to me haha. Not much difference between the oberon 5 floorstanders I had or the kef q350 I just returned when paired with my sub.

Again: Avoid 2-way MTM designs.

They're a fundamentally flawed concept with extreme frequency response dips off-axis.
I will stick to the cinema m6 series then and probably wait for a sale unless something else comes up. https://www.xtzsound.eu/m6?lng=en#!/Cinema-M6/p/384936035 Im assuming because this uses a muti array tweeter it would be considerably better? while not as compact, against the wall its right on the depth I would go to.

Perfect, I didn't manage to reach out to him, but I see you were accepted just a few minutes after we spoke. Good luck with whatever direction you choose!
Yeah i messaged the mod and he finally let me in, Ill just wait and if I have not sourced a 1961 bookshelf by the time the m6 go on sale then Ill just buy those I think.
