Comfort/Cushion depth differences between FT1 and Senn HD550/560/599 ?

SO after a bunch of looking and research for good quality budget headphones that are the most comfortable, I ended up with HD550s, because they were the comfort of the 599 with better sound quality.

And they're ... find. The sound is great, and the weight/clamping is lightweight and good. But the cushions are so flimsy and thin that my ear tips/rim (whatever it's called) press against the driver mesh/plastic which gets uncomfortable.

I could (and am considering) buying some thicker/firmer cushions for them, but as that will also effect the sound I thought I would also look into options which come with better cushions as standard.

Current list is Fiio FT1 (probably pro, but the cushions are the same either way), and maybe the hifiman sundara. I haven't really seen anything else that fits the bill (though happy to hear other suggestions).

To help with ear cup depth between headphone modes, have a look at @solderdude's list of headphone reviews: https://diyaudioheaven.wordpress.com/

He measures ear cup depth for every headphone.

Interesting. Though he seems to say the HD550 "more depth than most other headphones" which is a little worrying. The FT1 pro seems to have maybe 4mm more depth at the rear (seems the non-pros aren't angled so they're the same front and back, thought they'd use the same cushions).

But the ear-hole diameter is quite a lot smaller so it's swings and roundabouts. Probably have to try it to find out. Expensive experiment.
