Coffee - do you and how do you consume it?

It sure would, but not for the better
Surprised you don’t like them. Certainly not a commercial grade machine or a process where I’m spending 20 minutes understanding chemistry to make a traveler cup on my way to work. But a clear upgrade to Kuerig pods. The machine is easily cleaned and gives me a pretty solid cup compared to Starbucks. Does it compare to a cup I’ve had in Tuscany where I’ve had an hour to relax and take in the surroundings? No. But for a daily drinker I’d give it a nod over your Mr coffee. :)

That’s a certainty I wouldn’t disagree with no matter what fancy pods are used, but it’s ultimately a rather agricultural brew that could be bested quite easily by a £200 espresso machine & grinder setup.i

My current setup was only £500 for espresso machine and separate grinder and it takes the same time to make an espresso or cappuccino as boiling my kettle, admittedly my kettle is quite shite and low wattage ;)

Used to have a massive coffee setup. Switched to caffeine pills. Liberating.
Hope no one gets the idea that you can do the same with their music.
We look forward to our morning espresso regimen; using a LaPavoni/Stradivari and a Niche/Duo.
Both of our palettes agree that Ethiopian Yirgacheffe (medium roast) is our benchmark.

@ryanosaur:
1) What did you do for your Niche/Uno' noise problem?
2) Does your Niche adjustment-dial walk, when it is grinding? Mine does so (ever so-slowly) and the factory has no fix apparently, just stupid ideas.
3) Have you gotten one of those bellows for it? It works beyond "zero retention"...

Peet's Arabian Mocha Java made in a Moccamaster. Our first coffee device was a Chemex in the early 70s. Then there was the Melitta type filter pour over as well as many electric ones. We've also had several stovetop espresso makers. Our first "fancy" coffee maker was a Bona Vita. It worked well but had a very short life. We got another which had a similar lifespan. We switched to an Oxo which lasted a couple of years and made very good coffee. We've had the Moccamaster since last December. The only reason we bought it was it was 40% off on an A***** P**** sale. Otherwise it was out of reach. It makes coffee that's as good or better than pour over. I'm hoping it outlives us. We were living in Oakland in 1970 when we started to go to Peet's in Berkeley at the Vine St location. We'd had their coffee and finally decided to go with the hard stuff full time.

I did not buy niche. Was very extraordinarily almost mere nanometers (one could even say I was an RCH) away from buying the niche zero, but opted for the switch to Mazzer burrs on my DF83V.

This seemed to do the trick for most of my issues.

not ryanosaur, but my NZ was fine with noise. not quiet yes but pleasant low pitch grinding sound. I like that more so than my LC
my adjustment dial is fine and never moved. I suggest you to do a full cleanup to see if something can be tightened properly
i did not use a bellow. I accept that true zero retention grinder does not exist. I used a blower to blow up the chute and got like 0.3-0.5gr of ground fell down from time to time. Did a clean up every other month

I used some PTFE tape on the threads of the funnel/dial:

I didn't notice the dial moving on mine, but it made the action smoother and it might solve your problem.

I had one for a few years before i got my ek, and no it didn't dial-walk at all

To this, my 30 years of training wheels beginning on a £150 gaggia back in 96 have been well n’ truly removed, Varia S4 grinder, Gemilai Ele espresso machine with fully adjustable on the fly OPV, pre-infusion time, brew temperature, puck saturation time, auto or manual steam, steam boiler temp, milk steam temp,

Naturally I bought all the Ikape barista tools, gizmos and useless gadgets ;) and the walnut block on the left, the yellow container holds a Guatemala Bosques De San Francisco Here , the black container holds an Ethiopian Kebena # 353 Here , and the silver container holds a Swiss water decaf blend # 11 Here

The fun n’ games n’ caffination begins tomorrow, I spent a couple hours this afternoon dialling in the grind and espresso machine settings and making notes for each blend.

This is the easiest game of "spot the difference" ever. :)

Damn, I was hoping you wouldn’t immediately notice the removal of the wall unit lower moulding :D the Gemilai was 5mm too tall to fit underneath the wall unit with it fitted and as it’s cheap mdf I didn’t want to shave it as the steam would make it swell up.

Gave away my Ranchilo Silva a few years ago, was very pleased with it. I am back at filter, using a Wilfa Performance and typical standard coffes available everywhere. Don't have a grinder as I haven't figured out the which one is hype and which one makes sense. With the Ranchilo, I had a coffee shop around the corner, and no need. Am altering beween standard coffees and dark roast with or without milk. I drink A LOT of coffee. My favourite coffe is serimonial Eritrean, roasted at the table. Guess that's where the Italians got their colonial inspiration for espresso. I like both, but prefer Eritrean. The Eritrean ladies puts a lot of prestige in making the best coffee, and I am fortunate to know the best in this area. Her coffee is a marriage worth ;)
