Coffee - do you and how do you consume it?

My friends owns that small coffee farm in Panama, which recently set another record for the most expensive kilo of coffee sold at tad over 30k. His coffee is much more reasonably priced! He does not have a web site up yet, but on FB if interested. That's my coffee booster product, which takes your coffee to an 11. :cool:

LOL nothing so exotic as diamonds and the acceptable countries they can be sourced from (altho still likely owned by DeBeers in any case I suppose). Not sure what golden rule you're referring to, tho. It would be more about tariff classification for raw beans vs processed and the concept of substantial transformation (and costs of processing etc). Never had a coffee client, nor any really serious inquiries so never really got to know any particulars for coffee.

Looking for a grinder under 200 euros, available in the EU, preferably with a hopper and dosage setting. Any suggestions? I figure I’m willing to spend more if there’s some compelling reason.
 
Wilfa Svart or Baratza Encore. I have the latter. Dosage setting? I don't know what that means, but I make my coffee one cup at a time and leave the beans in an airtight can with a sealing lid that slides down to eliminate free air--better storage than the hopper. I weigh the dosage in whole beans, throw them into the hopper, and grind them all.

Dunno what cost would be in EU, but I had very good success with the Lelit “Fred” grinder. It’s small and pretty easy to use and maintain. It is best for espresso but could be used as coffee only, too. However switching between grind sizes is not recommended as the dial is truly micrometric and will take many turns to switch back and forth .

I had a middling (~$250) hopper-type grinder but the grind adjustment was too coarse for espresso.
So, I did grinder replacement as an ROI investment, with the intention that I won't need another for at least a decade.
I like my new Niche, with infinite-adjustability and [near-] zero retention.
But there are many new offerings (w/reasonable prices) from the far-east and you may wish to watch a few [boring but good] James Hoffman youtube reviews of grinders to allow you some specific knowledge.

Its not a bargain hidden under the noses of the less-informed, nor cheap, nor small, nor DIY-ish. Its definitely an advancement over a French Press, and somewhat better for the colesterol, so I'm told:

all noble cause, but I bit the bullet and ordered one (it can be repainted quite easily) . Will be departing with my Lelit Bianca v3. it was my dream machine for quite a while but in my 2 years of ownership it was not the rock solid machine I hoped for
- 1 year ownership of Breville Barista Pro: no problem, I grew out of it
- 2 years ownership of Lelit Elizabeth: no problem, just wanted something nicer
- 2 years with Lelit Bianca v3: 2 times sent back for warranty. Other several small issues. The latest one is the flow restrictor broken in half and I had to order from overseas for replacement. Plus I'm going through a midlife crisis so that's the last straw

Wasn't certain whether to "like" this or not. :p I wanted the Bianca. Now I find myself heartbroken and lost in a sea of incomparably mediocre espresso. And the machines that make said espresso.
Meh.

But hey, the pink could be fun for awhile. :) Would look slick if you just replaced the main machine housing with a Pastel Blue or Yellow! (Though I would choose black. ;) )

I guess it's back to looking at the ECM Synchronika II... but d@mnit if the price didn't go back up! :mad:
