Ha! Sorry that was a typo. I meant the DF64v (variable) v2/gen 2 that's just been released.Yes, the latest iteration of the DF64 is v2. Given the speed at which new versions are being introduced, it may be worth waiting a while.

Curious about the Mazzer Philos...I spent several hours watching a bunch of faces on YT discussing the DF grinders, along with Eureka and the Niche (oh, and the timemore sculptor, too)... those were where I have been leaning. End of the day it really seems that they all have their pros and cons, and none of them are real deal breakers.
For me, I'm probably buying a DF soon. Im leaning strongly to the 83V, though the 64v is still in consideration.
One of the things I got from watching all those faces on YT is that the newer stock burrs on the DF grinders are pretty good. Unless you are really looking for something specific, it seemed to come down to minutiae. I'm espresso only, and in that regard what I gathered about the SSP Multipurpose burr was that it might not be great for the type of Espresso I like, though it isn't bad for it either. One of the reviewers said he preferred the stock espresso burr to the SSP MP, even, and iirc said that there was very little difference to the SSP HU option.
Ultimately, this gave me confidence that I could run with the stock burrs for a while and probably for the life of the machine. Maybe someday I"ll ask "what if" but when it comes down to it, the DFs are pretty much checking every box I can think of wanting in my next grinder, including ease of opening the grind chamber and cleaning.
YMMV, of course.
Also they do offer 30 days for refund, minus shipping, assuming you clean it up and ship it back with all its original packaging. *shrugs
Interesting. Thanks for posting that.Curious about the Mazzer Philos...

Similar thoughts on burr set options. I want thick and syrupy, f!@# clarity!
I may be coming to the same conclusion as you, the DF gives you a beefy motor and big burrs for a fraction of the cost of several more 'luxury' examples. Might pull the trigger soon on the DF83 v3. Have you made a decision yet?Interesting. Thanks for posting that.
Would be great if it were available now, but I don’t know that I want to spend a grand on something I could get for a lot less in some other manufacturer.
Regardless, Mazzer is super respectable and I would expect you should have near lifetime support unless the machine doesn’t sell and they take it off the market at some point. *shrugs
Beyond all that… espresso shots you can chew!![]()
Is the plasma generator the only difference between the V1 and V2? There's a discount on the V1 right now that's making it tempting. On the other hand, I live in a very dry location so the plasma generator would be helpful assuming it works.Ha! Sorry that was a typo. I meant the DF64v (variable) v2/gen 2 that's just been released.

As best I can tell, they made a lot of minor changes to many of the early models, not just adding the Plasma Generator. Things like the declumper, where the power button is, doing away with the vinyl wrap, etc.Is the plasma generator the only difference between the V1 and V2? Videos all over YouTube go into the differences but the plasma generator, declumper and removable shoot are the only things that come to mind. But these are exactly the things that kept me from getting gen 1. Have you seen any critical comments that would lead to some modifications, and what were they? The plasma generator is gold. I hate static and it works to prevent it. Just have to keep the prongs in the shoot clean which is a job every 2 months or so.
As a general rule, going to YouTube for information is my last resort. Thanks for the info.Videos all over YouTube go into the differences
OMFG! YES!!!As a general rule, going to YouTube for information is my last resort. Thanks for the info.
I'd prefer to wait for your review on the grinder you end up getting rather than slog through a bunch of YouTube videos that have exceedingly low S/N.All of this is to say that in some things, a review or 10 can be a little helpful in sorting through the cr@p and not running up a huge bill shipping 3-5 grinders to audition and shipping back.
I’m so old I remember my parents talking about chicory being all that was available during the war. It was still on the grocery shelves.I stopped drinking pure coffee at home, now I'm drinking some Ricoré, a mix of coffee and chicory, and my guts thank me every day.
It's also faster to make. Call me heretic.View attachment 404571
I'm being picky as I have 64mm grinders and really like the look of the Zerno Z1. I'm just looking for improvements in tolerance, alignment and perhaps pre-breaking, none of which matters that much so the df83v is a good buy in gen 1. But yeah, Lance lol:Have you seen any critical comments135 that would lead to some modifications, and what were they? Truly curious as I WTB.![]()
I love the looks of the Zerno. It'd probably be the Zerno vs. Lagom P64 if I were willing to part with the cash. Trying to keep my priorities in focus, thick syrupy shots with flexibility around burrs should I get curious.I'm being picky as I have 64mm grinders and really like the look of the Zerno Z1. Just various posts on Reddit and such. Some say alignment is good while one person had to add 4 pieces of foil shim. I did the marker test on my DF64 gen 2 when I got it with SSP HU burrs. I've since changed to the DLC and back to HU without checking alignment again but will have to do that at some stage. At the end of the day they're a good value option with variable quality. Apparently MiiCoffee has a good return policy for them, unlike df64coffee (so I've heard).I love the looks of the Zerno. Any findings on tolerance/alignment for the current gen DF83? Might jump on the waitlist for the v3... waiting to pull the trigger.

For got to include the fact that, out of the box, the DF64 gen 2 alignment was great.Appreciate it
