In the pantheon of classical music schools in the US, the top school is Curtis Institute in Philadelphia. For a 4 year program, the school has about 100 students total, each individually tutored by a member of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Tuition is free. The next level are Julliard and Eastman. Julliard has more departments, like dance and theater. Julliard excels in strings. Eastman excels in winds, and adds electronic music. Both schools have jazz. There are myriad of music schools beyond in US and the world, and this is not a criticism of any.
Eastman, the University of Rochester, and MIT were endowed by George Eastman of Eastman Kodak. He endowed higher education, which he felt he had missed in life. Interestingly he endowed a dental school and a dental clinic free to all until recently because he had dental problems. His Eastman photography museum includes a collection of vintage motion pictures preserved in an underground vault as well as a vast collection of still prints and negatives. George Eastman was an inventor, philanthropist, gentleman, and scholar; we always need more.
Eastman has an ongoing spatial audio research project at the University of Rochester engineering school which might be interesting to ASR readers. They are fully involved with AES. You can visit by appointment. It is a great opportunity for students with that interest seeking a college.

We have started to make live and studio recordings with binaural and Ambisonic microphones at the Eastman School of Music and various venues at the Greater Rochester Area since 2017. We recommend you learn more about the Audio and Music Engineering program at the University of Rochester.
