It was recorded on mechanical piano and later in da 60's replayed with good equipment. This record feels kinda magic to me, cause it was 100 years ago but still sounds better than everything I've ever listened
I love Rachmaninoff - first heard the 3rd piano concerto when I was 13 years old over 50 years ago. I have many many recordings - but not the one you've mentioned here - will have to find a copy.
My favorite Rachmaninoff pianist is Stephen Hough - any thoughts on how he compares to other pianists?

Earl Wild isn't my favorite pianist, but his performance of Rach's 2nd PC with the Royal Phil conducted by Horenstein is one of my favorite performances. I had the Chesky LP which was a re-pressing of an original RCA Victor, probably from the 1960s. The recording quality is great for its time though dated now, but the performance is great.

BTW, what I really like from Rachmaninoff is his small ensemble works, like the piano trios & piano/cello sonatas. Weiterstein & Barantan, or Trio Wanderer.

This album of Baroque music called Deth–Life is touching with skillful performances.

I see Rachmaninov has a lot of followers here. This is maybe unusual but wonderful in my opinion
Definitely a misunderestimated composer. His forays into Russian Orthodox sacred choral music are exquisite.

Try as I might I just can't say no to Bruch's Violin concerto No. 1. Maybe for some it's like listening to the four seasons again and again... but I much prefer this. No comparison really.

Views mebbe. How many had it muted?

Why would anyone mute such a beautiful adagio sostenuto? :)

How about this one?
(btw I think Fedorova did a great job although Richter and Ashkenazy remain my favorites).
I actually did not know it got so many views since the time I watched it. Really glad to see that.
