Hi. My first post. I just bought an XLS 2502 Crown amp, but seriously considered an Apollon made AS1200 Icepower amp, for about $1200 shipped. People from the FB group were kind of 50/50 opinion, although most said theyd take the Crown over the AS1200 because of the price.

In theory Hypex > ICEpower > Crown, but $$ counts.

It seems that some are preparing for the emergence of amplifiers based on PURIFI 1ET400A modules.

I like to see that the ventilation holes are small and rounded and thus prevent them from acting as RF antennas.

Side and other screws, with how expensive amps are ...

Great work Leonid!

I see tests results on the bottom of the page too: https://orchardaudio.com/bosc#89eb08be-fe43-4538-b05d-b1f80fe155eb.
Also, I see the dual PCM1794A balanced DAC tests results as well here: https://orchardaudio.com/pecanpi#5e660ba9-cda1-4297-a124-7c006f40563a.

I also like "All of my products are assembled with love and care in Succasunna, NJ", although not sure everyone will love the prices, but definitely great work and very good build quality.

Of course. It's up to your needs and budget: If you may afford it, the AS1200 is both cleaner and (way) more powerful.

Update, apparently now it is

Purifi and Orchard > Hypex > ICEpower > Crown (on pure measurements Orchard falls a bit, but the difference should be inaudible).

For SQ (and also to support a small but honest and very dedicated integrator) go for the ICEedge based Apollon.

I'd wait for Amir to test Orchid before making a judgment on superiority. Wattage seems lower than NCore comparables.

There are other people with test equipment you know? Even AudioXpress measured them both.

Agreed. I like Orchid's class D distortion figures and it's always good to have more options, but their price for that 150W power is somewhat off compared to the market imo.
Also in the US one can buy a VTV Purifi monoblock from 1380usd a pair compared to the 1500usd a pair of the BOSC and get similar distortion and much more power.

He has said essentially that the premium is for being hand built in the US and for very responsive customer support. All good if worth it for someone, for me the “hand built in FR” Audiophonics for less money or “hand built in AU” March Audio are incomparably better deals

There is a lot of hype over GaN transistors. I wish Merrill Audio would disclose their measurements for their proprietary GaN amps to see if they are in the same ballpark as Orchid's.
