Class D amp long term reliability

But this thread isn't about sound quality. It's solely about long term reliability.

IOW: Cheap crap caps in SOTA class D modules and switching supplies, does it matter or not?

The answer is yes, yes it does.
Hypex do not use cheap rubbish just not best available in less expensive equipment, which will also be reliable if not stressed.

Buckeye cannot disagree with that.

Not my first audio company ignore.

Reliability (and sound quality) of NCMP if used correctly.

I say Kudos Hypex as an NCMP will do a lot of what is important but not all, unlike Purifi 1ET9040.

1400W into 2 ohms, over extended time etc.

Horses for courses.
Both will sound identical up until the NCMP is pushed past its limits. Which has nothing to do with quality of components used and everything to do with operating inside specs.

I can understand why you might want people to think otherwise. But I have always been honest with my customers that unless they actually have a use case that needs the extra power of the 9040 (or NCx500), sound will be the same as MP series. That's just fact.

I don't necessarily want people to *think* otherwise.

I'm happy to accept we sell 1ET9040 with assurance of 'end game' and NCMP as perfectly good enough.

Tongue in cheek.

:)

I intended to express sooner, but am concerned that prolonged vendor exchange in this thread has the potential to be problematic with the ASR terms for commercial participation on the open forum.

Please move on as this discussion has shown no likelihood of consensus. Thanks!

Maybe I can bring it back to something more akin to the original intent—if however still not likely to lead to consensus. I’ve been exploring Class D amps to replace a Naim Nait 5i. I’m all over the board from a WiiM Vibelink to a NCx252MP to a 1ET6525SA. WiiM ultra as source (w/ phono and CD via optical into the Ultra), powering KEF Q Concerto Metas. Never pushing super high volume.

Realizing that this is purely a want for clean signal with more headroom, and that I will not hear a difference between them, what value is there in going above (cost-wise) the WiiM? More power, sure, but more potential reliability with the Purifi? I want to scratch this itch once, hence why I’m even considering the Purifi.

There is a concensus that NCMP will do a very good job and be reliable given parameters are not exceeded.

Other than that 6525 will use 'better' components and have greater specs.

As much as I can say.
