Class D amp long term reliability

Maybe this is why he went voluntarily (gave up the fight), or was he pushed?

Some call it a 'race to the bottom'.

Cheerio!
Some simply give up discussing here, some ar into new interesting things, and some just fade away...
What ever reason, only the mod knows.

He went voluntarily:

IDK about wanting to keep 10-15yrs business is, seems like a poor investment. You know the case use BS is up to the end user and subject to all sorts of individual factors and variables… what makes sense to me, probably wont to you. I buy a couple of fosi monoblocks and am happy at 18mos of regular home use… ROI achieved on my terms. I’m in bonus territory. The next big thing will certainly come along and be a worthy replacement for my use when that time comes. I mean a couple hundred bucks is like one trip to the grocery store.

Waste of time with no music (why I have either a duplicate of everything or something that can at least act in it's place [this includes most things that wear out] not furniture or homes but clothes, electronics, bedding, etc), time in general that I can't get back trying to find a suitable replacement, waste of the earths landfill space, just generally wasteful if I can't refurbish it or have it refurbished.
It's different if I am changing up to get features that I did not have before. But then the gear removed will go into my mother's system or another of my own systems.
Much of what I have is from as far back as 1977 but it all (except for Turntable's and phono preamps) has a SINAD of over 90. I certainly can measure it all better than I can hear.
And will likely last me until the end of my life.

He went voluntarily:

Ahhh, there is a nest of vipers I think I will avoid!

27 years working in sales and repairs at a (decent) hifi shop and still can't say for sure.

And a brief go at my own refurb business (before joining Nord in 2018) with an attempt to explain some of it.

:)

Effect should be affect but otherwise true.
Huh? What does talk of placebo have to do with the topic of reliability in this thread?

There is plenty of placebo/discussion of measurements vs subjective feelings threads around here for such discussions.

One wonders if this thread hasn't finished its course.

Hate to say it, but same goes for many.

Reckon so many are cyclic.
Almost glad I've got a bad memory as it often feels like Groundhog day.

Or deja vu.

Lol

It is only that the argument of reliability being affected by build quality/component compromises and then the argument that more expensive does not bring better experience by falsely claimed improved sound.

More expensive gives more but actual sound quality alone, even if it doesn't.

Yup.

Circular.

OK, I'll bite then. Based on the text message screenshot a few posts back and this statement, are you implying that more expensive equipment will bring with it a perceived better sound even if that perception is only due to placebo?

Or just that a more expensive product is better built?

But this thread isn't about sound quality. It's solely about long term reliability.

IOW: Cheap crap caps in SOTA class D modules and switching supplies, does it matter or not?

The answer is yes, yes it does.

The answer is yes, yes it does.
It does when or if they're cheap enough to be unreliable.
