Christmas is a Christian jubilee for birth of Holy Christ Jesus. It started Europe and has spread widely around the world mainly because of crusades , conquistadors and migration of Europeans. In many countries it is a holiday and as effect of St. Nicholas who evolved to Santa Claus, also a fiest for children and charity, with gifts. The holiday and charity meaning of Christmas is widely accepted among different cultures, and many international and national varieties exist, diluting the religious message.

Chants for choirs at church are the longest tradition, but in modern and postmodern times unreligious "pop" Christmas songs/carols have gained wide popularity.
