Chord just released a new upscaler: Quartet

I cant wait for Amir to get his hands on the Quartet,it will be on the scale of the mscaler x4, for the shock to the Audiophile world.

With and without the new SR fuse.

The most radical improvement in digital audio technology this century.

Don't worry bro. HeadFi assures us it's absolutely magical after listening to it at canjams.

Theres quite a bit of scepticism there as well, which is good;it does nothing and some there believe that. This currawong guy thinks hes some god like authority, hes just a reviewer, not an engineer, seems like a cult if you ask me.

I used to watch Currawong on YouTube a few years ago. One of a group of heavily subjective reviewers that I stopped watching completely.

I don't mind the subjective reviews , I just try to not get swept up in the nonsense. Which admittedly can sometimes be tough.

Subjective reviews are only useful for seeing the product and how it works/usability. Any discussion on sound quality for a DaC is fairy story stuff and I find it excruciatingly annoying.

So what's his magic raison d'être for people shelling out £25k (!) on his Quartet Scaler then, compared to M-Scaler? In 2018 he was saying about M-Scaler's accuracy, "identical to 16.6 bits to an ideal sinc filter". So to all intents and purposes, perfect! Then with the caveat, "Of course, that leaves open the question of whether 16 bits is good enough, and how much more we get from longer tap lengths; but for sure there must be a point of diminishing returns.".

Surely anyone with a brain cell in the subjective side of the audiophile world, must also be starting to smell the marketing BS about yet more and better-er TAPS and WTA filters etc.

From what I remember the calculations/filter is "better" now and it's 4M taps so it's even more betterer.

As for the subjective reason , people said it gave "more definition and widened the soundstage , and made instruments sound more realistic".

I'm starting to think they bit off more than they can chew price wise on this but there are still a few people lining up to throw away money. Hell the M-Scaler is a veritable bargain by comparison.

I'd love to see this blowhard Rob Watts perform a blind A/B test with either of his upscalers inserted into a system and watch him fail to identity when they are switched in and out of the system.

However, I won't hold my breath waiting for this to happen (it never will) as I'm sure he'll be too busy concocting his latest pile of overpriced BS to satisfy his totally delusional hearing ability, one that us mere mortals can only dream about.

Throw in Currawong who also claims amazing hearing regarding his childhood experiences yet never submits to a test.

Sweet, I totally want one. By the way, what's an upscaler?
If reading British audiophile mags for the last 30 years has taught me anything, the Brits have this acronym - PRAT - pace, rhythm and timing - that they prattle (sorry) on about.

My take on PRAT is these listeners emphasize or value time domain accuracy over say, frequency response. Kind of like what MQA was designed for if memory serves. It all seems reasonable on the surface.

Problem is, I've never seen PRAT objectified in any way. Can you measure PRAT? Is there a PRAT scale? Do the Brits have the lock on PRAT, or are others bellying up to the PRAT bar?

You can absolutely measure it. In fact, you can even write entire sheets of instructions for exactly how you want it to be performed before the music is is recorded, and get this: musicians can read it and play it back just as it's written. Seriously, do these people believe that the drummer loses a step if you have the wrong DAC or something? Spending $15,000 on a DAC turns Coldplay into Kool and the Gang! It's ridiculous.

There is no denying the excellent performance of the 2Qute's built-in filter; while I believe this is the result of an emphasis on detail, I find it better than the linear-phase fast roll-off filter by comparison,However, the difference is minimal and falls within the realm of personal preference.

Maybe it was not you. Did you not propose a similar bet a couple of years back? I think it was on the 'All DACs Sound The Same' thread.

Thanks for pointing out what was claimed on his last round. Will save others the effort that may have missed, but here is where he last left an identical proposal…

“I guess I'll just do this on my own and give up my hopes of getting support from the "demonstrate it to us" community. Well, actually, I don't really need to do it, since I've done it innumerable times in preparation to make sure I could win the real test.”

My takeaways from the previous round are simple:

1. Already previously stated he would do on his own 2 years ago without the wager.
2. Should deliver on what he said previously and demonstrate what he claims.

Since neither of these have been met, there is no credibility to what @PabloAlbita offers here. Until he indicates any plan to do more than boast, will be reviewing this thread for adherence to ASR policy. You cannot buy credibility.

Locking for now.

Lacking any response from the perpetrator after issuing a formal warning, I felt it was best to purge the forum of the trolling that occurred over the weekend. A couple of you alerted me to this calamity but too much ugliness had already ensued.

My usual guidance is report rather than retort, but you can report and retort. Will save member and staff time if we can address this misbehavior sooner rather than later. Thanks!

Thread restored.
