Paradoxically, I am completely happy these days with a system that consists of devices NOT recommended in here.
And if they are electronics, it hardly matters.

Having had multiple demos involving a Chord DAVE, I could not fathom a universe where anyone would pay $10k+ for it.

Given that people did and possibly still do, that would simply be a failure of depth measurement tech, wouldn't it? ;)

It's a HUGE jolt to be told you spent $$$ in the thousands and got absolutely nothing extra to show for it. Especially if your significant other is also reading this material
I suppose, but at the end of the day it isn't like the product itself is actually poor. You got what you paid for and are able to still enjoy it.
Sure it doesn't have a value aspect to it, but it isn't like you bought something that is broken and paid a ton of money for it like the people who wasted money on AudioGD stuff.

True enough.

I know if I told my wife that I had spent £10k on something when I could have got the same performance for £500 (or less) she might start wondering about my sanity (more than she does already!)

I guess if money is no object then nobody cares. But even if that were the case with me, I’d want to get value for money - I’d be spending the £9500 saved on the family, etc.

It’s nearly impossible these days to tell fake or synthesized/cultured jewels from real ones while wearing them.

A Goyard Bag costs a ridiculous amount and an exact replica costs less than a tenth.

What was the banana-taped-to-wall art really worth?

These sorts of conversations can cut many ways.
