Choosing new speakers Kef vs PMC vs Fyne

Thanks, from what I read using plugs is not the best option, since It can affect the sound, is this accurate?
I’d assume shoving plugs into the bass ports would affect the sound.
The Q7 Meta’s plug seems to be two stage. A big plug, with a smaller secondary one in the middle.

The only speakers I ever had with bass ports are my KEF LSX.
They’re placed in a sort of weird location, nearly a meter from the wall on top of shelves I built to support my bed and mount a monitor for video streaming.
No plug needed.

I can test the KEFs and the SuperLinton at the store, its not the same than my room, but I guess I can get an idea.

Whats wrong about the Fynes?

Have you ever been to a hi-fi dealer that carried everything you were interested in hearing?

I thought not.

The Fynes look cool. Interesting design, porting the bass out the bottom.
My downstairs neighbors might not like them.

I need to have the speakers like 30 cm to the wall, and the Kef have a bass back port. While the Fynes have a 360 degrees bass port system.
That's almost 1/3 of a meter, really as a loudspeaker engineer I would not be sweating that. 3 cm yeah. Granted, I am not aware of any actual research nor is my ex-Harman buddy, however we both felt a couple of times the port diameter should be sufficient.

As for dispersion, yes the Wharfedale Diamonds (and Linton Heritage) had a nice open sound in Audio Element's open plan shop (and in my house and my brother-in-law's).

By contrast the more expensive EVO did NOT, sweet spot only, a consequence of it's tweeter design. Similarly for Fyne as can be seen here

the narrow tweeter horn feeding in coaxially inevitably beams,* so this would not be a choice for your situation. Basically you want something where the spinorama shows disperson wide and not narrowing a lot at high frequencies.
*that's "What's wrong with the Fynes" to answer your other post. It doesn't mean they can't sound lovely but I would bet some money they will be sweet spot only speakers.

From a nice few hours at Upscale Audio with the Monitor Audio Silver 300 my list for you would be
https://www.stereophile.com/content/monitor-audio-silver-500-7g-loudspeaker
Their predecessor played everything just lovely, on- or off- axis, and is the only non-horn speaker I've heard that could really CRANK hard rock and metal and remain clear sounding.

Thanks a lot, I Will look at the Silver.

If I finally go for the Kefs Q7, is a Technics SAC 600 going to work Ok with them? Would I need a better amp?

If that is an amp, how many watts per channel at 4 0hms is it advertised as? I couldn't find it.

The Technics per its spec is modestly powerful, which will drive most of today's speakers pretty loud. You would not "need a better amp" because you buy a particular speaker* you would need a more powerful amp if you want to play really loud.

*with some exceptions for particularly inefficient models, maybe the ELAC which are infamously power hungry and I forget some other brands whose sensitivities are quoted as very low. Brands routinely lie about their sensitivity so if they quote a low figure then it must be miserable. I suppose conversely if you got something truly more efficient like big Klipsch models or PSA, JTR then the SAC 600 would surely blast your ears.

I checked the KEFS and they are 87db sensitivity. They should be fine with 60 watts per channel. I think they are going to be amazing. I would not worry about too much bass at all with 6.5 inch drivers. Good Luck and let us know what you end up getting. All of us at ASR like getting after purchase opinions of speakers!;)
