Chiptunes And Beyond

Crapman - A Game For Real Heroes

A Pac-Man clone with excellent chiptune music by Joris de Man, released on the Atari ST in '93.

After the Atari era with music for Crapman and other productions he (Joris de Man) went on to bigger projects, like making music for the Killzone games.

Joris is also the man who called himself Scavenger in the good old days.

Scavenger - Disk Busters Association Mag 6 Intro (Atari ST, 1992)

And here is a remix by Fabian Del Priore, from the Revival ST CD, released in 2005.

The Sega Mega Drive / Genesis console from 1988 has two sound chips, a Yamaha YM2612, amongst other things providing six FM synthesis channels, and a Texas Instruments SN76489, giving three additional square wave channels / noise.

You can hear them here in the Overdrive demo by Titan (Sega Mega Drive / Genesis, 2013)

The Atari Falcon is the successor of the Atari ST/E models, released in 1992 but discontinued already in 1993. It includes a DSP chip (a Motorola DSP56001) that can be used to complement the sound chip that otherwise has the same capabilities as the ST.

Here is music made in ACE Tracker 2.

v0yager - Pimp My Fuji (Atari Falcon, 2014)

Here is music that might fit in nicely at your next 8-bit retro party.

Amplitude Problem - Atari Gangster

Oh, and don't forget the barbecue sauce to go with it!

I want to recommend Master Boot Record. Chiptunes meet metal.

They have a bandcamp.
