Cheap old soundcard vs onboard audio

Modeled after cpu coolers is a good design. Should work very good in airflow.

The problem with all these coolers is size/height. M.2 slots will become a problem for cards. Especially m.2-1. Luckily we enter times were almost all decent boards come with more or less extensive, low profile plates.

To the start of this little offtopic excursion: couldn't find a price for it here, but I would chose this one over the fan option anytime. Or any other passive cooler doing a good job.

I agree M.2 slot can become a problem for card, especially m.2-1. I use Ineo M12 because the Youtube review is good. And I use an active portable fan to cool that Ineo M12. And it just fit under my massive Noctua CPU Cooler.

As to the other M.2 slot, MSI recently has a very nice M.2 cooler, but I don't want to buy their drive, if anyone knows where you can buy the heatsink by itself, let me know, as it shouldn't too hard to put an active 60mm to 80 mm fan to it

Yes, with some small Noctua fan this could be an ultimate nvme cooler.

I tend to create fast, large arrays from mid-performance, cheaper nvme to get overall fast storage that can do sustained load (hyper cards). But hyper cards fans are loud, don't do that on or under a desk.

Don't want to burn through large Samsung 9100s or Sabrent Rocket5. But if I would challenge these expensive drives constantly, I would def. cool them with the best that is available to get it below 60 or even 50 (and still good to mount). Sabrents go a multiple of their TBW easily, Samsung Pros can also take a lot. Value preservation.
