They were showing the ability of their point and shoot cameras to capture slow motion. Was pretty effective demo.

This is their pro stage showing their various DSLR cameras, in this case shooting portraits and phenomenal low-light capability:

They had set up this super dark bar scene to show off how they can convert that to near daylight with insane ISO of 250,000 and thereabout. With naked eye, the bottles were barely visible. They said it was one light candle. My camera maxes out at 3200 ISO so a fraction of what they are shooting.

After a bit of processing in Lightroom though, my image became very usable:

Admittedly it is not still as good as what the Sony got which has on-sensor ADC for better signal to noise ratio.

Back to TVs, these are their non-OLD LCD displays. The big news here is that they were NOT even showing their high-end Z-series of last year! Instead, they were showing TVs with similar design but with fewer local dimming zones. I suspect they are realizing OLED is more cost effective for a high-end TV than push-to-the-limit backlit LCD designs.

I heavily increased the brightness on this image to see the halo around SONY logo. It is clearly there but I don't think it is a fault of the backlight as much as it was an effect of having it glow some.

OK, couldn't resist seeing the Harman section in Samsung again. :D JBL Project K2 S9900:

To put things in context, the Samsung cost for that booth space was probably $2,000,000 dollars. So allocating so much space to Harman is really expensive.

The auto audio section of CES always has a bunch of cool cars. There were not as many this year but I took a picture of a few that were there. You car nuts have to tell me if they are anything special:

They had to find something to replace the Galaxy Note 7.

They had Sal's new car there too:

Yeh "always on" something to have created this massive mess with emissions cheating:

This was funny. This was one of the cars where they had put in a million watts of power in there and playing bass. With every boom there was this loud rattle. I though it was just blowing the windows out or something. Then I walk back and see that it is the license plate that is doing it! Put my hand on it and all the noise went away. The guy beside me chuckled. As I walked away I noticed this booth employee walk up to remove the plate!

The King of Audio proves his worth again!!! :D

This dude with his hair everywhere was more interesting than the off-road Quad! :)

So I was asked to look into this Universal remote from NEEO.

It is a remote with a base station. The remote had a very responsive touch screen, low-weight and long battery life. Alas, no inductive charging. You had to put it in a cradle to charge with pins that connect to it. In my experience these pins can corrode and stop working (shared this with them).

I was surprised that the base station had no connectivity other than Ethernet. I asked them how it was going to control other displays with IR or Serial ports. The presenter was surprised I was asking for such old interfaces saying he thought consumer devices had open interfaces. I told him that was a poor assumption. I worry that their view of home automation is way too simplistic thinking this idealized environment where all devices are IP (network) controlled.

The device is a kickstarter project and seemed pretty finished from hardware point of view but they could not demo any functionality. I wish them luck. They seemed like nice people but have picked a very difficult problem to try to solve.

This was a dream scenario for anyone interested in Sennheiser headphones with all of their products in one place. Alas, I listened to the most expensive one and whether it was the content or the headphone, did not like the sound.

This is an omni-directional speaker that won some award at the show. It was not quite omni as the highs reduced some toward the back but still, it was interesting looking and sounded decent:

Now we get to a product that I really, really want! An underwater drone! Full motion video, 5 to 10 knot speed, fast maneuvering, ability to hold the fishing line and release it, etc. It can go down to 100 feet.

I have had an underwater camera for years but with no ability to control it, it is not very useful. If this thing works half as good as what they show in their videos, it will be very cool. BTW, battery life was 2-4 hours and the unit was pretty hefty.

Pre-order starts in February of 2017. Pricing is between $2,000 and $3,000.
