OK, by miracle I managed to finish seeing everything in the Venetian Hotel where all the high-end companies have suites. I got through them sooner because CES had rented out a lot of rooms as business meeting rooms to companies unrelated to high-end. Here is an example:
For those of you outside of US, AARP is an organization that baggs older Americans and then tries to sell them insurance. I gave them Sal's email address for follow up.
Still, there was plenty to see. I say there was 70% as many audio companies as RMAF.
The rooms were the most comfortable of any audio show. Cool and quiet. Rooms were also generally larger or so it seemed. I stayed at Trump Hotel where there are no casino which is great. And within 15 minute walk to Venetian. It was a very good choice even though I donated some money to our newly elected president.
What was great was the many personal contacts I made and renewed. Somehow it was a lot easier to have conversation as opposed to other audio shows where audiophiles % is higher and they want this and that played and talk to the presenters. Learned a lot of back stories some of which unfortunately I cannot share.
Trying to get pictures processed and uploaded as fast I can, I ate mostly at the food court at the Mall. Barely edible stuff. First night I sought a BBQ place that had near 5 stars from Yelp with some 150 reviews. Get there and it is a dump inside and the five meat combo I got was all left overs from steam ovens. See the sacrifices I make for you guys???
Had technical difficulties the first day. I use my phone for song look up and taking notes. The phone had about 45% battery in it when I put it in my pocket. Was having a great conversation with a friend and all of a sudden felt something really hot in my pocket. Pull out my phone and it hot as a skillet. Not only that, it was stuck in an infinite loop rebooting!!! Power switch would not work. Struggled to pull the back off and pull out the battery. PUt the battery back in, it booted fine and said there was 22% charge left. I had a sigh of relief only to be ended with the phone shutting down and saying it has 0% charge! Had a dead phone for 3 hours so had to go back today and see the same booths one more time to capture music.
So bad food, bad technology but great conversations and good music. Tomorrow will be at the main hall, hitting all the major companies and seeing the latest in video and other tech.
