Centre Speaker Question

I would like to get an ELac Carina C speaker to match my towers to use long term in my media room. However I’m not ready to buy a multichannel receiver. I mostly just want to get one while there is a sale on one. Am I able to connect it to my older Quad Vena 2 amp and just use it as a living room speaker as normal? I just kinda assume I can connect to the L/R connections and test it/ use it in the short term as a low usage streaming speaker in my living room.

You cannot "short" the left & right signals together without risking damage to the electronics. You need some kind of mixer to mix stereo to mono.
