Center channel to match Focal Electra 1028 be?

Hi Everyone,
I have the following setup for my "home theater", which is our living room/TV room. Room is about 5x5 meters. Ceiling 2.8 meters. Right wall (vis-à-vis) MLP has a very large opening to dining room.
I run a Marantz Cinema 70s in preamp mode for all channels. The setup is 5.2 with 2 front height speakers. (Don't think 5.2.2 is the correct denomination as that I tjink implies Atmos speakers...)The front LR are powered by a Mcintosh Ma8000 integrated amp. The rest by an extra amp putting out 100W/channel at 8 Ohm, all channels driven). The front speakers are Focal Electra 1028 be. The current center channel speaker is the Focal Aria cc 900. The surrounds and height speakers are basic, but very ok for my setup. The subwoofers are Focal Cub Evo, small but together they pack enough punch for the family, both for movies and music. I also have a minidsp for the subs and have achieved very good results with that. Now, the center speaker has just died as in gone to speaker heaven. When I set this up a few years back, I had zero experience in home theater setup, but my system has sounded really good, again, for our I suppose modest needs.
So, after reading quite a bit about center speakers, the point that always coned up is the matching of the LCR. I'm inclined to go with the school that says to just go with something that sounds good. Previously I was blissfully ignorant about tjid, but now... Well, the doubt is there. Typically, I would just go with an SVS or Klipsch or Kef or whatever, something with good off-axis dispersion and bass extension, but the Electra are a little bit special with the beryllium tweeter etc. Maybe I should be a bit more careful now that I am yo buy a new center? I can not afford something like the Sopra center or find the 1008 be center (out of production). What I would prefer is a 3 way speaker that has a good response across the whole spectrum that can be used off axis. Any good suggestions?
Cheers
Sorry for the lengthy post, but thought the description might help.

5.2.2 would be correct, I believe. Usually the third number is Atmos speakers these days, but heights are also included.

You say you can't afford the Sopra, but what is your actual budget? Also, are there restrictions on the length, height, or depth of the center channel?

Hi again,
Yes. Should have said. Height would be max 25 cm, depth 35 cm, length can be up to 80 cm or so. Weight not more than 20 kg... Let's say a budget of 1000 Euro stretch to 1500 possibly. I have looked at the SVS Ultra Evolution, some Klipsch and Kef. Just don't know where to go.
All the best

Turn center speaker off in the AVR menu.

Why post this video? OP specifically said he's looking for a 3-way center, which avoids the horizontal dispersion issue that Erin is complaining about. I also think that issue is overblown as long as you're getting at least 20-degrees of good response off-axis, but that's not really relevant here.

Also, I have to presume linking to that review of the RSL speaker is to demonstrate a really poor speaker... but again, what's the relevance here?

Pickings for good 3-way centers that aren't outrageously expensive and are available in Europe is a bit slim from what I can tell. Ordinarily I'd say the KEF Q6 Meta is a good option, but like most KEFs it's a bit lower on treble which might not pair very well with Focals which are generally have elevated treble.

The video, whilst interesting in itself, does little for my situation.
The Kef Q6 Meta is one that I have considered... I don't know, maybe I'm just overthinking the whole situation. The more I read from both sides of the "matching" problem, the more schizophrenic I get...

I don't think it's necessary to be completely "matched" for "timbre" (total misnomer, btw, as speakers don't have timbre). I do think it would probably be noticeable, in a bad way, if the tonality and directivity of the center was significantly different than the left and right, though.

Yes, I probably agree with that... But, what to get? I don't really have time to order various speakers and test them all, although that is probably what I should do... Possibly if I could narrow the choice down to 2 or 3 contenders, I could order and try them out...

Better PM Amir.

Yeah I have no idea what you're getting at.

Back to OP: are Ascend Acoustics speakers available in your market? Their Sierra Horizon V2 would be a great option if you can get it, and make it fit (it's a little taller than your specified limit).

Lots of constraints in you setup/choice. Not sure if I can contribute much more. You have the parameters you want and there are lots of reviews out there. Most of us can't really go into detail such as if it clears the 25cm hight requirements.

Yeah I have no idea what you're getting at.
Did you read his review? I'm not an expert like you, Erin or him. No offense, moving on. Good luck to OP

I'm definitely not an expert. I did read the review. I just have no idea what the relevance of that speaker's review is to the OP's request for options on 3-way center channels.

Okay I get it now, I read that as a preferred option not a requirement for CC predicament. Apologies to all if I read it wrong.

The reason I mentioned this was that one contributor asked what dimensions I could accommodate currently. I think a vast number of centers will fit within the 25 cm height constraint. If there is a really good center speaker that fits my other requirements, I could possibly work around it. Cheers

Man this looks cool! However, I don't think they sell in Europe. They do ship here though, buy that'd kill me. 1400 for the unit. Add shipping at around 100. 1500 x 1.21 for VAT, you're up at 1800 plus customs inspection. Also, I have no idea if there are any new Trump tariffs etc, but odds are that it's gonna get up to 2000...You know you Americans are lucky in many ways when it comes to this stuff...

Emotiva sell here in Europe of course, but the impressions/reviews of their centers seem mixed...
