Hi everyone,
First time posting and a newbie to this vast and expensive world of audio. Please move this thread if this is better suited to the Newbie forum.
I recently moved apartments and upgraded my home listening setup for the first time since 2013.
I went from an old Yamaha RX-V675 to an Onkyo RZ-30 AVR, and switched out my floorstanding Polk Monitor 70 II to a pair of KEF Q350s that I got for $500.
I was blown away by the sound of the KEFs (also compared them in my room to the Elac DB63s, and preferred the clarity of the KEFs) for music listening, and they sounded wonderful across a variety of genres.
I currently have a 2.1 setup with the KEFs on stands, and a Klipsch Sub-12HG sub that I've had since 2013.
The only area that I find the KEFs could be improved is dialog in movies, and while researching this topic more, everyone recommends a center channel.
To keep the timbre match with the KEFs, I zero'ed in on the KEF Q6 Meta.
Erin from Erin's Audio Corner recently posted his review of the Q6 Meta on his Patreon and spoke very highly of it, but spoke about it benefitting from side walls.
I have almost none to speak of in my space. My setup is in a relatively long and narrow living room that measures ~13.5 ' by 29', and the TV + speakers are on the left half of the long wall, so the wall to the left is probably a good 8+ feet away, and the wall to the right is probably 13-15 feet away.
I asked Erin about this directly, and he seemed to suggest my bigger issue would be that he thinks the Q350 and Q Meta line "have different voicing".
Since I'm new to this, I'm assuming he means the timbre is different?
In his review, he mentions that without side walls, the Q6 sounds "dark", which surprised me, since I felt my Q350s sound really nice in the mids and treble, and if anything lack bass without the sub.
Long story short - for anyone that has owned or is familiar with the KEF Q350 - what would make a good center channel pairing?
I just purchased and love these speakers, and am past my return period.
I thought of buying a third Q350 to use as the center channel, but I don't see them for sale anymore, and Erin also suggested that they would lack output and bass extension for a center channel.
Any advice would be appreciated.
