Cell phones VS DAP players.....

CAN ANYONE GIVE ME A REASON TO BUY A DAP?
For ergonomic/usability/cool factor reasons, many of which have been mentioned in this thread.

There’s nothing wrong with DAPs and there are plenty of reasons to use them. But SW isn’t one of them in general.

On viewing the 18 messages/replies by Kinglizard i have come to the conclusion that it is an a.i. generated bot and I recommend burning it with fire

I have one more question.......
Since many of you think phones and DACS are the only way to go and that digital audio players (DAPS) are way over priced and sound the same and that DACS and phones sound better....

Sure, you want to listen to music some place you can't take a phone. For example, a prison. Just don't drop your DAP in the shower...

I can't understand
why some can't understand a DAP from a cell phone and earbuds..
I think it's because they probably never owned a DAP player..
I never had a cell phone that sounded anything like a DAP player.
What is there to understand "a DAP from a cell phone" which doesn't even make much sense. OTOH only using earbuds would be more a concern than how you stream or with what devices. Some phones may drive your earbuds better than others perhaps.

No annoying phone notifications interrupting the music.

If using the device to store a music library it saves space on your phone.

You probably realize that an alternate non-voice smartphone (ie no SIM) accomplishes the same thing for a lower cost and more SW flexibility?

Not necessarily cheaper, e.g. this looks cute and is currently only AU$185 (but you have to supply your own micro SD card):

Obviously buying a $1,000 DAP is stupid.

I would say the last gen iPod touch that I use fits that category yes. Do you have a point?

Why does everyone say this when it's so easy to turn them off?
Because it is a valid point. I certainly am not interested in turning notifications on and off for listening to music. Too much faff, having a seperate device suits my needs and preferences better. I didn’t say it was a one size fits all.

Reckon the more active/out and about use, the more DAPs have an advantage. It is quite easy to damage your phones USB port if using your phone when out and about. As previously mentioned, you are also going to run down your phone battery much more quickly. I also like using a DAP as I like being able to control it without looking at it, due to being familiar with the physical buttons DAPs have. I now have an expensive smart phone which I prefer to protect from over use of either the battery or the USB port. YMMV.

PS My DAP of choice is a £50 Xduoo X2S.

I would like something small and light that would easily fit into my gym shorts. I miss the little iPods of yesteryear.

Yes, but they don’t stream, and there’s no bluetooth, IIRC.
This one and others do and small form factor $200

Who needs a DAP when you have a CD player (AU$159 Fiio Disc or AU$186 Fiio DM13)

Or even better, a tape player? (the AU$68 Fiio Echo Mini, or AU$100 Fiio CP13)

Because they are large and in the case of tape, sound bad

Spinning discs and tapes chew through batteries too
