Celebrity RIP Thread

Sad. R.I.P Georg "Jojje" Wadenius. I saw him live a few times. Very nice events.

Georg "Jojje" Wadenius (4 May 1945 - April 2026) was a Swedish multi-instrumentalist, singer, and composer who was particularly active during the 1970s and 1980s as a studio and session guitarist and bassist, as well as for a series of albums of children's songs in Sweden.

Everyone and I mean EVERYONE who was a child (and most adults) in the 70s knows this signature song that Jojje Wadenius created for a popular children's program::)

He played with the big artists:

Brings back good memories. Driving around in the summer with Seals and Crofts on the radio. Glad I grew up back then
Me too! Good times I think.

I am not making excuses for anyone. The dead are remembered, not judged, in a RIP thread. You can judge them all elsewhere. Together with millions of others, neither you or I know.

Alex Zanardi
Indeed, though I still think of him as Sandro Zanardi as that was how he was known when he test drove for us before going to the CART series in the US and Americanising his first name.

He was a test driver at Benetton when I was chief engineer and I worked with him then and I then saw him in CART when I was helping Lola.

He was a great guy, everybody who worked with him loved him and his achievements after he lost his legs in that horrific crash define him as one of the greatest sporting heroes of all time, IMO.

Please forgive if applied some heavier moderation as thread got reported and one post caused major battle.

As my third title suggests, made a quick call based on the rules. Likely a compromise that will likely satisfy nobody!

It must have been an honor to have worked with him, he was truly and is one of the sport greatest heroes.
He will be missed by many people around the world.

Hmm,

That posting had me thinking Chevy Chase had passed....

Nope. Just the Generalissimo :)
I didn't think it would be controversial
We all will pass....

I wonder if Mr. Chase would appreciate the irony of his (eventual) passing being noted with the memorable SNL clip you selected. ;)

he was also one hell of a sailor:
When Turner was 26, he entered sailing competitions at the Savannah Yacht Club and competed in Olympic trials in 1964. He first attempted to win the America's Cup in 1974, losing in the defender's trials aboard 12 Metre class yacht US–25 Mariner. Turner was defeated by Ted Hood aboard US–26 Courageous. Turner was asked to join the 1977 America's Cup defense syndicate formed by Hood and Lee Loomis for the New York Yacht Club. That group still owned the Courageous but decided to design and construct a new 12 Metre – US–28 Independence – to defend the 1974 America's Cup victory. However, in the trials with Turner as skipper aboard the 3-year-old Courageous proved to be the faster than Hood and Independence and was selected to race in the 1977 races. From September 13 to 18, 1977 Courageous with Turner in command defeated the challenger Australia skippered by Noel Robins in a four-race sweep. Courageous' greatest winning margin out of all four races was 2 minutes and 23 seconds. In the 1979 Fastnet Race in a storm that killed 15 participants, Turner skippered the S&S-designed 61-footer Tenacious to a corrected-time victory. Turner appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated on July 4, 1977 after winning the 1977 America's Cup. Turner was inducted into the America's Cup Hall of Fame in 1993 and the National Sailing Hall of Fame in 2011. (from Wikipedia)
