George Foreman
I am not a boxing sports fan. But I am a student of African history and have been involved. There are several movies about the epic fight between George Foreman and Muhamed Ali in Zaire / Congo in 1974, documented in film When We Were Kings.

There is a lot of spirit in sports.

Later in life, Foreman on Ali in the NYT obituary:

""
But in his final decades, Foreman also said it was his friendship with Ali he came to cherish.

“I was pretty close to hating him. I wanted revenge,” Foreman told USA Today in 2023. “He became the best, and one of the longest friends, I’ve ever had. I love him to this day.”

The two talked on the phone regularly, Foreman said, and discussed everything from faith to fatherhood. Foreman, the born-again Christian; Ali, the devoted Muslim convert. Foreman had 12 children (including five sons named George), and Ali had nine children.

When Ali died in 2016, Foreman was an honorary pallbearer.

“We fought in 1974; that was a long time ago. After 1981, we became the best of friends. By 1984, we loved each other,” Foreman said in 2012. “I am not closer to anyone else in this life than I am to Muhammad Ali.”

I guess this means the warranty on my grill is no longer valid.

The grills were banned in my sons dorm and he told me that he and almost everyone else had one under the bed. :)
Don't know but he probably made more from the Foreman grills than getting punched in the grill.

Oh yes, he made much more off the grill than boxing... which was created by a Michael Boehm, then marketed using George Foreman's name/brand.

I am reading reports Mr. Foreman earned in excess of $200 million from the sale of products branded with his name. I had no idea he earned that level of income.

Sponsorships and licensing deals are how the smart ones make their fortune. Even Pro athletes you think already have more money than they know what to do with just from their contracts... It's this other side of the business that really sets them... in another league. (Couldn't resist... I'll see myself out, now.)

Foreman didn't blow his money. Rocky Marciano was a notorious tightwad. Larry Holmes also was frugal. Most athletes are poor managers of money.

Brian James, who helped spark the punk-rock revolution in Britain in the 1970s as the lead guitarist and chief songwriter of the British band the Damned, bringing a rare degree of musicality to a genre known for its chain-saw attack, died on March 6. He was 70.

Richard Chamberlain. Shogun and Centennial. Loved both tv-series

With Bob Dylan:

You can tell when a movie was made by how far the hair departs from realistic. What Air Force pilot would have ever had hair like that?

"Son, get a haircut."

Rick "but Kilmer was always a bit too cute for the roles: Morrison was never that good-looking, and the Saint can't quite carry off those disguises with that jaw" Denney
