David Lynch

David Lynch weather report

David Lynch.
Oh no!

What an exceptional talent. Probably more impact on my life than any other movie director.

Iirc, the first yt I shared here on ASR back in 2019 was the final scene and end credits for Lost Highway.

But now I choose the end credits from Inland Empire (his best movie, although many were very good) because 1) it's got to be end credits, right? 2) it refers to so much of his work; 3) it's a nice example of his extraordinary way for combining music with film; 4) I'll take any excuse to listen to Sinnerman by Nina Simone.

I feel similarly about him, the impact that blue velvet and twin peaks had on me when they came out was massive. Such a unique way of doing cinema, very odd and confusing at times, but always accessible, and one of the best users of sound in films. And I love that album with Julie Cruise.

RIP David Lynch. :(

Iirc, it was Wild At Heart and Twin Peaks which were my first DL experiences. What was that, ‘90?!! I was still a puppy then. Maybe a sophomore?
Good age to get your head slightly unscrewed as a GenXer. ;)

R.I.P

The British rock guitarist John Sykes, who played with Whitesnake and Thin Lizzy, has died aged 65.

A statement on his website said Sykes "passed away after a hard fought battle with cancer".

_________
Thunder and Lightning is the twelfth and final studio album by Irish hard rock band Thin Lizzy, released on 4 March 1983. Guitarist John Sykes was hired to replace Snowy White after 1981's Renegade, and Sykes helped to provide a heavier sound and guitar tone than Thin Lizzy had used on previous albums.

Here John Sykes goes all in with a really good solo on a song from that album: :D
