Celebrity RIP Thread

Such a contrast to an excellent human being like President Carter compared to where we've gone this year.....RIP Jimmy, you were an awesome human being.
I couldn’t agree more on honoring President Carter’s remarkable character, his kindness, humility, and genuine devotion to service. While every era has its challenges and differences, Carter’s example stands as a reminder that genuine empathy and commitment to the common good should guide us, no matter who sits in office. Let’s remember him for the dignity and grace he brought to public life, and carry those values forward in his memory.

RIP, President Carter. Your warmth and compassion continue to inspire us all.

I am good friends with the nephew of Mr. Carter’s best friend from their earlier adulthood. He knew him well from his youth growing up in Americus (9 miles from Plains). His description: “A nice man devoted to his family and friends. He was just too damn liberal!” I think that sums it up for me, given that we seem to be allowing political commentary about this political figure for the brief moment.

Wow.

Jimmy Carter.

He defied the odds even in hospice. Honestly I’m glad we didn’t have to suffer through the next guy presiding over his funeral.

One of the best things about being an undergrad at Emory when I was there was the annual question hour with President Carter. I guess it would be called an AMA today. He took all questions seriously, and provided candid answers even though I don’t believe Chatham House Rules were in effect.

My favorite moment with him was back when I was working at The Carter Center. I was taking my grandfather and uncle to the airport, and stopped to give them a quick tour. As I was signing them in, President Carter walked in the front door, with a grandson on his shoulders. (He lived in Plains but came up to TCC in Atlanta once a month for some time.) He put his grandson down and walked over to us. He shook both men‘s hands, made a little small talk, and before he went on with his day looked my grandfather in the eye and told them they should be proud of the fine work I was doing. (I was a low-level fellow, just out of undergrad; he undoubtedly had no idea who I was, only that I had a badge on my waist.)

I don’t know if my grandfather was ever prouder. I’d never seen him beam like that.

You're right, I shouldn't have even brought it up.
