Just bought a pair of Revel Salon2. I will be keeping them in my finished basement which has no pile(or maybe very less pile) carpet. Once in a while I might have to move them a few feet so thinking bolting on casters instead of spikes. Is this a bad idea from pov of safety and sound quality? If it's ok to use them, do you have any recommendations? I found these two so if anyone has used them, I would love to hear your feedback.

2. https://www.mcmaster.com/casters/ca...face-type~carpet/brake-activation~foot-pedal/

Mcmaster are "not made for speakers" but very cheap.

Also chatgpt mentioned the stem thread size for the spikes that come with Salon2 is 3/8"-16 which I will confirm with Revel support.

You don't want the cabinets to move under the momentum of their own woofers, so if you must, at least buy caster wheels with "parking brakes" so you can lock them down.

Terrible idea.

As staticV3 said, speaker energy may cause momentum and movement.

And it may even rattle.

And not sure how the energy damping may be.

The only thing I'd be concerned with is rattling. If you go to the hardware store you can choose something that doesn't rattle.

Rather than modifying your speaker, you might want to make a little rolling base similar to a platform furniture dolly, or I've seen rolling plant bases. Those are just concepts that you can copy. You probably want to make a custom size and finish.

Some large PA speakers have 2 wheels, 2 feet, and handle on the back so they can be tilted and moved like a hand truck. The wheels don't have to swivel if there are only 2.

Typically, they are "notched-in" like this but you probably don't want to make that kind of drastic modification and you probably want smaller wheels.

Another possibility might be to attach some non-swiveling wheels to the back so they are almost touching the ground, so again you can tilt it back and roll them around. But you might not like the way it looks from behind.

If it’s a thin carpet and it’s flat then I’d just leave the speakers without any legs, or just some plastic pucks, and slide them as needed. Otherwise the levelling casters would be best but which ones depends on the threaded inserts matching the caster fixing screw,

The mass of the salon2 is more than enough for them to work well even if they are suspended in mid air.

Sliders perhaps? You want actual wheels? If locked then perhaps that works well enough. You probably need cable lifters and speaker lifters per the audiophile crowd :)

Heavy duty castors work great for speakers. Never had any problems and am loving the flexibility they provide. Raising the speakers (which weigh 63kg btw) also makes sense in my case. I say find the proper size and go for it

I asked the Revel customer service and this is what they replied.

"Regarding using casters, I don't really suggest it because the speakers are designed and tuned to block vibrations. If you add casters, it could impact the sound quality."

I think am going to drop this idea. I will use the spikes it comes with and see how hard it is to move with them. Worst case, maybe be use speakers without any spikes?

did you make this yourself?

Find some on AliExpress of suitablesize and save yourself money. There'll be an audible difference but you won't quantify it in quality terms.

Going through this now. Used moving dollies for the last few months while I decided where to place the Salon2.
Decided I'm going to have to move them many times per week basis. Move Left about 2 feet. Move Right about 10 feet.

After much research, decided on the Herbie's Giant gliders that screw in where the spikes screw in.

Does Herbie‘s have gliders with 1/2“ 13 unc threads?

Thanks for the link. Unfortunately, Herbie’s doesn’t provide stud gliders in the 1/2"-13 UNC thread size, which is required for the Salon2.

Here's a solution

Order the Herbie glider threaded in M8 1.25 and then order the above threaded insert.
Not the most elegant solution but Herbie doesn't make a 1/2" 13 unc.

Cheapest price I could find for a stainless insert. Other places were charging $6.70 per piece plus shipping.
