It's really unfortunate that such an interesting and powerful algorithm is gated behind hardware with a singular special purpose that makes it less than ideal for in-home use, regardless of the price.
Yeh, the cancelled product was a traditional home theater processor with this technology in it.

I am sure that we should be able to correlate measurements with what we hear, we just probably need a DSP plugin to play around with harmonics, phase shift etc. Background noise and mains hum are the only variable that we can all agree that we can hear, at least when pumping up the volume or when using very sensitive headphones or speakers.

Meanwhile, we're all a bunch of "ASR missionaries" here, according to some, but who knows...maybe they're all right after all.

@amirm, wondering if there's an easy way to record with REW the exact same wave tests (perhaps music as well) played by 2 different DACs or headamps, then played back in A/B test and also in Adobe Audiotion, to check for differences.

You can export the REW test tone to WAV (or just play it in REW), then play and record that in Audacity, and export that as a WAV if more analysis is on the table.

It can actually go even further and separate (and edit!) every note in an instrumental or vocal track. Apparently this is how a lot of „talented“ musicians „sing“ and „play“ nowadays.

Not sure if/how you can use that thing for measurements But why would you need such a separation to measure the performance of a dac/amp/etc...?!

Gee, I don't think you've been paying attention...

Whenever the usual suite of amazingly sensitive measurements don't show any meaningful difference between some typical device and the holy-grail-du-jour device,, the cry is always

"But you didn't test it with muuuuuuuuuusic!"

By the same ‚logic‘, if you only tested a balance with oranges, you cannot use it to weigh apples.

But anyway, if someone comes up with that sort of comment it‘s not worth talking to them. Some people are hopeless and enjoy staying so; no measurment or rational explanation will ever touch their ‚aura‘

That is a much nicer version of my "You will never convince and idiot that they are an idiot"
