Can I use powered speakers through pre-out as my Atmos speakers?

My apartment is rented, and I’m currently using a pair of Monolith THX Compact Satellite speakers as my height (Atmos). They have M6 mounting holes on the bottom that allow me to attach them directly to my stands.

I’m looking for replacements(with 1/4-inch, 3/8-inch, or M6 mounting holes. Weight less than 2.3KG), but I’ve found that the options are very limited. The only ones I’ve come across are many powered speakers with mounting holes on the bottom (Genelec G One, iLoud, etc.). I’d like to ask whether it’s possible to use these powered speakers as my Atoms speaker via the Denon X3800H’s pre-outs. If so, I have a few questions:
  • How would the volume be adjusted?
  • Would these active speakers still work with Dirac Live or Audyssey room correction (DRC)?
  • Are there any other potential issues I should be aware of (audio latency, possible noise, lack of 12V trigger, etc.)?

"Preamp outputs" are normally volume-controlled since volume control is one of the most important functions of a preamp. And usually your AVR has settings for the different speakers (to match them) and room correction or other automatic measurement may take care of that automatically.

Latency won't be a problem with a wired analog connection. Latency is usually related to digital transmission which is sometimes buffered.

I don't know about the trigger options for those speakers or your AVR. Automatic signal sensing is another common feature on active speakers/monitors.
