Can I do room correction EQ manually with Neumann KH 80?

Hi all,

I'm using a pair of Genelec G1 to listen to musics for a while.
But the bass issue is really annoying since there's barely no acoustic treatment in my current room.
I've got a miniDSP UMIK-1 mic to do a measurement and I can see there's some high peaks in the bass range.

I've tried using REW and Equalizer APO to do the correction. It does work but it only works when I'm using my PC. When I connect my DAC to my iPad or Mac, there's no such EQ to use.
So now I want to upgrade to a pair of speakers with DSP. I know that Genelec 83xx can do the correction, but they are way too expensive and need the extra GLM kit.

Then I learned that Neumann KH 80 DSP also has a built-in EQ, but It seems also need a MA-1 mic?
So I wonder if I can use my UMIK-1 to adjust KH 80? Or if I can generate a correction in REW and mannually apply it to the KH 80?
Seems that I can't find anyone did like this before, I want to know if this approach is feasible.

Thanks!

No you can’t program the KH80 DSP EQ manually (eg via REW generated filters) only via the MA1 and the MA1 software. I have the KH80/KH750 and I personally think it is well worth it (confirmed by REW). The MA1 does more then REW, it also adjusts phase/timing. But you also need an audio interface with 48V mic phantom power (check the Neumann site for details). Genelec GLM is also a closed system so to speak.

Alternatively you can get a MiniDSP, which you can program with REW, which would probably be cheaper in your case as you already have the G1s.

EQAPO wasn’t for me either in the long run as I didn’t always wanted my PC to run. But it is free and great to learn the ins and outs of Room EQ.

Yes you can, but only with the Neumann.control iPad-app. You can use 8 bands of EQ per channel. Not as much as MiniDSP, but sufficient for room eq.

@Circle
You can indeed useyour Umik and REW to generate Filters, than apply them via the app. You could borrow an iPad if you don't own one. The app is free.

Look (edit: better video):

Fair enough. Stand corrected. Honestly I completely forgotten about this option, sorry.

Or get a DAC with PEQ such as an RME ADI-2 DAC fs.

LGTM. I've got an iPad and it seems that I can do exactly what I want. Thanks for your help!

Neumann seems to have forgotten about it as well :)
App hasn´t been updated since Nov 2019. It works, but it is still not compatible with the MA1 software. I wonder what their plans are with the app in the future.

With new DSP-speakers coming (KH150, maybe KH120II), I hope they go forward again and bring the different software solutions together in a decent way.

Yes. I only used it once to setup the Logo brightness. But with the recent (ca 2 months ago) update of the PC app, one can even do that too via PC and I had completely forgotten about the iPad app. Especially as I am not constantly setting up my system newly. So thanks again for reminding.
