Can cheap units make good speakers?

you can see that a few speakers are reviewed here with pretty economical but well established commerical drivers

i'm sure that the currently available drivers are NOT the issue in speaker design

the chinese COULD easily dominate in this area but somehow they dont

. While they have no doubts about its sound quality, the idea of using a budget unit makes them uneasy.

This does not make sense to me.
Performance is measured, price is not a metric for performance.
Either they don’t know what to expect from a driver or they don’t know or are unable to test the driver performance.
Overpaying for an under performing driver seems even less appealing.
If they really have no doubt about the quality, good pricing should be icing on the cake, not cause for anxiety.
