Now everything works fine, including display. What I did: I tried once again a clean system install, flashed Raspberry Pi OS on new SD card. Dropouts were gone - until I run update/upgrate of the system (sudo apt update, sudo apt full-upgrade). Meanwhile a new version of Raspberry Pi OS was released (Trixie 13.1). With this new version, even after update/upgrade, everything works fine. The display: I ordered a new one, plugged it in, and it worked from the start. The old one must have been faulty, or I destroyed it in the process. Thank you once again for advice.
