Cadentia 3 Product Development thread / Audio First Designs

Harry, I am sorry to hear about your injury. I hope recovery goes well and you are able to able to capitalize on some down time for design work.

I was able to get my Cadentia 3s fired up this evening for the first time after a lengthy room, speakers and stands build.

The first thing I have to say is that I am very pleased with my kit. Despite the 3 boxes showing up in rough condition everything arrived to me in the USA damage free. The kits really left an impression of being well thought out and executed and everything went together well.

I only have first impressions in an entirely new system and room but they are very positive nonetheless and I am optimistic that these speakers will anchor a very satisfying system.

Looks like a few of us have gone, or going with a walnut finish. I, too am quite impressed how the kit went together. The only minor issue (my fault) was not tightening one of the large baffle bolts enough such that the washer rattled under low frequencies. Easy enough to fix!

Overall listening impressions have been wonderful!

Beautiful work, gentlemen! I am so happy to see them being built and enjoyed!

My recovery seems to be going quite well, I can move my leg a lot more normally now and hopefully will be off the crutches in 2 weeks.

With the help of my colleague George, we managed to ship out a few more kits last week. Now I am waiting for more drivers to arrive to finish the rest.

Initially, I thought I could focus on design work these days, but man, little did I know how the nights would be after the surgery... The discomfort and pain kept me awake.

But its definately getting better. I know everything will be fine eventually.

Similar performance to Fidelia?

tremendous work as always and wishing you a speedy recovery.

I kind of see the Cadentia 2 as the successor of Fidelia for now. Everything is a little better.

A more neutral in-room response (no little bump around 6k Hz), a tapering directivity which is now my favourite (I received a lot of good feedback regarding the soundstage performance of the Cadentia 3, so I rekcon its working), less dynamic compression and a 3dB higher sensitivity. I love how the TPCD drivers sound, too. The con is obviously the price since the Satori drivers are considerably more expensive.

I planned to make a new Fidelia product line (finished) in the future as a more entry-level series for my brand, which will include some slim, modern-looking, close-to-wall placement-friendly floorstanders (as a response to a lot of enquiries from East Asia), offering a very good performance for the price.

Sounds great, Henry. The early measurements do look excellent; as linear on axis as Ascilab’s best, but with the different directivity that you described. I think you’re onto a winner with the Cadentia style and performance as you build your brand identity and fully built (non-kit) offering. Plans for a Candetia 4 to take in the floor standing MoFI models?

Pain meds will keep you awake or keep waking you up if you fall asleep. I recommend a 3mg melatonin 20 mins before going to sleep and a 3mg when you first reawake, that will help with the overnight pain (and ice). I've been on pain meds for 25 years and that regiment helped me after it was suggested by my specialist after my 2nd ACL surgery.

Thanks a lot for your sharing. I will give Melatonin a try tonight.

@Trangbar Man, those are one of the most beautiful speakers I have ever seen and boy do I look at speakers... What are the stands??

Harry, I don't think many people realize what you have done for us. Designing a two way, properly, is obviously difficult. A three way with this level of sophistication, at that price is simply a miracle. That is the best deal in audio I have seen in my life. A speaker from an established speaker builder would bear a five figure price, not even starting with 1. I hope a million people would see this opportunity and snatch it.

Thanks! I made the stands with off the shelf legs (for benches) and added a butcher block top and a shelf below at just the right hight for LPs!

Have to give a little update now that I have a few days use on the Cadentias. Im having a bunch of literally jaw dropping moments with these speakers/system. It's the culmination of a longtime dream for me to get a dedicated room setup and I am not disappointed!

Im very impressed by how neutral, natural, smooth and just great these speakers are from top to bottom. They are doing all the audiophile stuff but Im happy to report they are badass too! Good at low and high volume as well. A really complete speaker with no practical limitations in my small room.

A really impressive achievement Harry.

The first batch of finished cabinets arrived last week!

My recovery also went quite well, started to practice walking without crutches this week (but still on one crutch most of the time) and sleep a lot better...

So with help from George, we have started the production of the finished Cadentia 3, a bit slow, but we will get there.

Purite Audio in London will be getting a pair soon. Please contact Keith if you wanna listen to the demo.

Squarewave in Taipei and Guangzhou will also have demo pairs very soon.

awesome to hear your recovery is going well.

Nice!
Guessing Harry is a busy boy this weekend.
Just fired off my deposit to Harry Y for the Cadentia 3s in rosewood.
Also upgrading the woofer to a TPCD driver & getting the purpose-built stands.

I did months of research before deciding.
Speakers considered:
Arendal, Perlisten, KEF, D&D, Ascilab and a couple more.
