Cadentia 3 Product Development thread / Audio First Designs

Yes, as a pure woofer, the TX isn't obviously better than the paper one, so not really worth the cost. However, at the very late stage of the development, I do find an interesting, potential advantage of using the TX one, which has nothing to do with the bass performance but something else...
May I ask for your thought about this matter? Have to say I'm puzzled as SB's specs are so close even above low frequencies...

Received my shipping notice this morning. Can't wait! Need to get to work on my stands.

Thanks @Audiofirstdesigns_Harry for shipping our packages so quickly. You must have been busy this weekend.
Indeed!

I am running out of space at my office, so I've been doing the packing work at my garage this week.

Due to the lack of a workbench there I kept bending down, and I managed to hurt my back a bit

A few more sets still need to be done in this batch, but I am afraid I need to take a break for a day or two.

Thank you very much for your patience.

PS: I am now in search of a bigger office with a warehouse and potentially a small room/area as a listening space, so customers can come visit for some listening event!

Hi, what's the minimum listening distance for these speakers? Can they be used in near-field environments?

Hi everyone,

A bit of bad news to share here...

I had an accident during the weekend, and it broke the ligament in my left knee.

I had surgery and was discharged from the Hospital yesterday.

Now walking with crutches, it will take a good few months of physio and rehab exercises for me to get back to normal life.

Life throws shit at you some time, and you just have to deal with it. I know I am gonna recover, but I was quite stressed out about my business side of things after the accident.

There are still a few Cadentia 3 kits that I haven't packed. A small batch of finished cabinets will arrive in a week or so. Production needs to start soon to supply stock to the dealers / direct order customers.

I have a part-time colleague who's been helping me with production tasks since last year, and I am also seeking more help from friends and family to get the existing orders sorted this month. But unless I can find someone working full time for me, I probably will have to stop taking new orders for quite a while until I can physically work on things again.

My missus has started helping me reply to emails as well since I can feel very tired sometimes. You might receive a reply from K titled Boss of Harry (just to make fun out of it, haha). I should mention that she's been helping me a lot since the beginning of the business, building the order management system (she's a web developer) and packing the accessories in the kits, etc. I am very grateful to have her in my life.

I should prioritize my recovery at the moment, but I still can work on computers, so I will focus on new designs and consultancy work for now. Also good time to make plans for the business in the long term. I am making good progress on the Cadentia 3's little brother, Cadentia 2. I prioritized it over the Cadentia center channel since quite a lot of customers told me the 3 is a bit too big for their flat. I will share some results soon (maybe in a new thread)!

Speedy recovery Harry.
Best,
Keith

A ligament tear in the knee is something very impactful. Glad there is still some semblance of normalcy still even if the vibe has shifted in your space. take your time. health is wealth.

I wish you a speedy and full recovery.
As you say, look on the bright side and focus on engineering new projects while you work on finding a solution to meet the demand for your superb products.
Sending you good vibes from the south of France. A client, Jerome

If someone want some more beauty shots of the Cadentia 3 veneered version and an interview of the designer.

There is an English dub.

However, at the very late stage of the development, I do find an interesting, potential advantage of using the TX one, which has nothing to do with the bass performance but something else... Hi Harry, any updates on this? Curious to know what advantages you may have observed with the textreme woofer. And would like to know if that would be an upgrade option.

Hi all. My kits arrived a couple days ago. I’ve ordered walnut veneer in 3m adhesive sheets.

I plan to build one of the boxes in a week or so when our pacific nw weather starts to clear. after lots of thought, I will use the kit box parts and, once glued-up, get the exposed joints smooth to 220 grit plus 2 coats of water-born urethane. that ought to provide a good substrate for the 3m pressure-activated veneer.

Harry, I am sorry to hear about your injury. I hope recovery goes well and you are able to able to capitalize on some down time for design work.

I was able to get my Cadentia 3s fired up this evening for the first time after a lengthy room, speakers and stands build.

The first thing I have to say is that I am very pleased with my kit. Despite the 3 boxes showing up in rough condition everything arrived to me in the USA damage free. The kits really left an impression of being well thought out and executed and everything went together well.

I only have first impressions in an entirely new system and room but they are very positive nonetheless and I am optimistic that these speakers will anchor a very satisfying system.

Gorgeous finish work there

Looks like a few of us have gone, or going with a walnut finish. I, too am quite impressed how the kit went together. The only minor issue (my fault) was not tightening one of the large baffle bolts enough such that the washer rattled under low frequencies. Easy enough to fix!

Overall listening impressions have been wonderful!
