The lack of alignment for the weave on the mid and tweeter would annoy me. Is that down to the builder, or do you just have to live with what you get?

For the mid yes, but not for the tweeter by the look of it. Post #74 shows one unmounted with 3 mounting holes in the front plate, but it's not clear whether the weave aligns with any of them. I'd guess the mounting holes mate with pegs on the back of the waveguide for alignment, and the asymmetric terminal position may not allow rotation by 1/3 turn. An image search for the tw29txn-4 shows no consistent rotary alignment anyway, although the crossing point does always seem to be in the middle. The SEAS fu10rb in the LXmini has a similar lack of consistent orientation.
 
AFAIK, the checkerboard pattern is done to "equalize" any potential directional strength in the textreme material.
Think of it exactly like the woven fibers in clothes, fiberglass etc.
An omnidirectional pattern gives equal directional strength\consistency to the cone.
Pulp cones are constructed the same way. Fibers are fibers.
The only possible downside may be visual.
I admit, it does satisfy a certain OCD rightness.
YMMV.

I didn't think of aligning mine but it wouldn't be difficult
 
I never noticed the tweeter being at 45°, thanks for triggering my OCD!
If it was a real OCD, you would have noticed. ;)
 
Glue-up of stands. Western yellow maple. Hard to work, but nice grain. Will get stained with espresso (dark roast).

Wonderful work! What a cute stand!

I've been doing a lot of work in my new office lately...

Just got everything moved over to the new place this week and am still setting things up.

Now I have a very basic office area to do some work, and I got a Bambu Lab H2S printer for printing some bigger stuff (horns!) to test in the future.

The NFS room is up today! Well, nearly there, still need to do all the cable connections. Installing the winch was a fun task!

The storage area and the workshop are still in shambles. But I am getting there...

You know what's the best thing about my new office? IT HAS AN AIR-CONDITIONER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ran REW and Minidsp flex 8 integration, quickly generated an auto-eq filter set which dramatically smoothed the in-room response from my usual listening position.
 
In aldous harding’s “the barrel,” all the voices are clearly resolved. very nice.

If you have an AVR with Dirac ART, the bass units from your Lx521 make great bass support speakers - I ended up doing that with mine in a HT setup, have them summed into 1 input with another 3 subs using the other outputs.
Would help smooth bass response from uour Cadentia 3 - which look awesome by the way!
 
I carted those to storage today. Those plus the cad 3 are just too big for my lvg room. I cross over at 69hz to the big subs wrapped in books. Those are dual-opposed beasts.

One of the nice things about dsp software like in the minidsp flex 8 is that it is easy to check individual driver phase. by using high pass and low pass crossovers, you can readily isolate a driver and then invert its phase. if it sounds dispersed and hollow when inversed, you know your internal wiring is correct. I did this today after realizing I hadnt checked phase before sealing up the cadentia 3. no problemo. all the drivers got wired correctly. It seemed like it when I first fired them up, but I wanted to make doubly sure by listening to each kind of driver.
