Are you suggesting wire remembers where it once was on a spool, like some kind of homoeopathy? Still doesn't explain the supposed directional behaviour.

You mentioned they listen to each reel of bulk wire. So, i assume you meant that the wire was in the spool when they tested it.

well, directionality comes into play at km lengths. they're listening to the ends of an industrial sized spool...

That doesn't seem practical at all (good luck connecting anything to the inner end). I assume they cut off a metre or so and listen to that in both directions. If they're not making it up, that is.
