Budget monitors for mid/far field listening?

The peaks at 40 and 140 Hz are truly terrifying. This is shocking content. I'm thinking about images of peaks over 15 (or 10)dB should be blurred out  .

If WiiM Amp Pro is too expensive, and if the regular WiiM Amp is significantly cheaper, that’s not a bad choice either. You lose PFFB (i.e. it is slightly load-dependent), but the rest is actually pretty similar.
It's a 100 bucks less so yeah pretty significant gap

Perhaps it's also worth waiting for the Black Friday sale.
Maybe but it's getting long, like I said I've been saving for months I'm a bit tired of waiting. I'll see if I find anything before the Black Friday, if I don't maybe I'll wait

I've got original 305s myself, and without a sub, they're okay but I'd rather have better bass performance. How much is the LSR310S?
The LSR310S is 500€. I won't be able to afford that anytime soon since I already have to buy everything else

Just a thought. That's way too much for that sub in any case, altho it at least can offer a crossover. I haven't had a chance to experience the Adams but they seem to get very good comments in general. Did I see you're looking at a Wiim amp ? Why an amp with active speakers?

LIke I said a bit earlier, I don't have decided a specific way to make my setup (active/passive and everything). What I want is simply the objectively best sound/listening experience I can get for 600€ for watching movies and listening to music. So I'm taking every suggestions I can get to reach that goal. I originally asked about active speakers because I have seen multiple times people said that they have better performance for the same price as a passive setup. However it seems some people have a different opinions and recommended me a passive setup with a wiim amp for example.
It's quite complicated to take everything that has been said in account given my budget.
Here's what I think so far:
Passive setup are interesting but they really lack bass extension compared to active speakers of the same price. They need a sub to really shine but it's way too expensive for me to be able to buy one anytime soon. What's really interesting is the room correction that could be achieved with a wiim amp. However, with my budget that would mean putting more money into the amp than the speakers which seems a bit counterintuitive as I always have heard that speakers are the most important thing.

Active setup is really nice, they have a wider range so the need for a sub might not be as big. Woofers are bigger so they are able to better fill the room. The only downside of an active setup is the lack of room correction. I will look into the different options to see if I can add one in some way but it seems a bit difficult.

What's your take on this, would you go active without RC or passive with RC?

Thanks for the recap. I think it just depends on current gear and goals as to how to select what works for you. My accumulation of gear probably has a few years on yours :). I use several avr based systems in different rooms with passive speakers, and one 2ch system with active speakers using some of my old 2ch gear. I do think the Wiim amp has some very nice features for a good price, and could be used in a variety of ways which I like. While 2ch actives work well in the room I have them in, it wouldn't work so well in other rooms due lack of power outlets in proper positions (nor any interest in wiring for such).

If starting from scratch with such a low budget I'd probably stick with good actives and use even the non-amp Wiim for good options .... or I'd just save up for a more significant start.

Good luck!

Thanks! I'm pretty much starting from scratch since my current setup is a 45 year old Hitachi stereo HiFi system that belonged to my grandmother plugged in the horrible 3.5mm aux out of my TV. The amp is having electrical issues too. It's better than the integrated speakers of the TV but I think that with 600€ buck I could get something a little better today. I can't really save up more than that, it's already a lot of money so I'll try to work with that

:p

(to shock you even more, sometimes I don't chop the ~30Hz one, I leave it there as a guilty pleasure :) )

To the OP, 3.5 meters is far, you will be far from the critical distance so room will matter more.
Combine that with the discomfort of a thin sounding speaker with a small woofer and I'm not sure I would not recommend you anything smaller than 8" or 10" woofer.

At a distance like that nearfield monitors like the ones at your list are loosing their purpose.
I know that my post can be disappointing but depending your music and listening habits it can either be ok or a total waste of hope.

IMHO the goal needs to be adjusted)). Subjectively best and so on.
Of course I want the best sound for me (so subjectively) but since I don't know exactly what I like or how to describe it. I think that if I pick something objectively good, I will still be satisfied. Unless my ears or preference are really extremely different from everyone but I don't think so.

Do you think that a passive setup would be better?
The woofers on passive speakers are even smaller so I wouldn't think so but maybe I'm wrong

I think these would suit your budget & with 8" woofers. Not a lot of exposure for this brand . . .

fwiw : I use the v.1 of these with ARC room correction in my hobby studio - very happy with their output

There are some customer return, B-stock and open box JBL 308p for good prices. If you insist on new for $400/pair, I would get the Kali LP-6.

Since everyone is recommending a 8" I'll try to find some that I can afford. I'll look out for returns and such
