Budget DAC Review: Schiit Modi 2 ($99)

Haha who would you rather trust. Someone who seemingly nothing to gain except more followers by fair and detailed measurements which you can repeat if you have the equipment. Or do what schitt did and claim it's nonsense. Clearly conflict of interests. Like amir said they didnt post their own measurements as they probably werent that good. Sorry for grave dig.

the people who listen through headphones miss the miracle of virtual soundstage
moreover the listening through headphones is not natural and going against nature can lead to issues

I agree--although I don't see how this comment has much to do with a 7 year old DAC which is most likely discontinued. I bought what I thought was a decent pair of headphones--a Sennheiser HD660, planning to use it when I wanted to listen to music as suitable levels without disturbing my neighbors late at night or early in the morning. They sounded fine to my ears, although they were physically uncomfortable. As for "missing the miracle", I agree. Partly with the help of this forum, I repositioned my speakers so that I enjoyed a centered sound image, etc. Imagining a singer in front of you is much better than hearing her inside your head. To experience this at my desk late iat night or early in the morning in my small Brooklyn apartment, I just took delivery of a pair of the LP-UNF monitors from Kali Audio and I think they are wonderful--they are like headphones without the vice like grip around your head but with the "immersive" experience of a three dimensional "sound stage".

hi and sorry i looked at most recent posts talking about headphones
speaking of dacs the reproduction of a well developed 3d soundstage is a very challenging task for a dac
only the very good ones can provide a nice depth for instance There are specific tracks that can be used to check this ability
a system that cannot provide a nice soundstage is a failed system

That may be true, although is sounds like it may go against the grain of many in this forum--brace yourself. But for anyone who is comfortable sitting at a desk listening to music, I recommend a good pair of speakers which are designed for near-field listening rather than even the best headphones. Although I don't know what attributes of a speaker MAKES them best for nearfield listening other than, of course, being small.

IMO HPs combine the worst of both worlds of IEMs and speakers.
