Hi everyone! I'm a long time listener but first time caller.

I recently purchased a pair of 9040's from Dylan and one of the amps buzzes. There is absolutely no buzzing sound from the speakers, it's from the amp directly. Only one of the the two amps that buzzes (the other is silent). It is loud enough that I can hear it from 12+ feet away.

I did reach out to Dylan he said it's "normal" and some amps will do this.

Has anyone else received an amp that buzzes?

The amps arrived on June 25, 2026 from Buckeye.

According to Dylan, "[It's] simply, a random thing. Some amps will develop a buzz as time goes on, some never will, even with Hypex power supplies and MP series modules."

Mine has had a buzz from day 1.

Also, according to Dylan, "I've had a customer change out the power supply before due to the noise and it took three different tries to get one that had less/no noise."

I do want to stress how loud the buzz is, as well: I can easily hear it from 12 feet way and this morning I could hear it on a different floor in my home. Dylan and I are emailing back and forth and I am hoping he can offer a solution.

To be clear, my reason for posting here was to see if others experienced this buzz with the 9040's. Dylan said it happens randomly and I certainly had never read that anywhere. At the very least, I wanted to put it here for the people of the future so they are aware that their amps may buzz.... Loudly.

EDIT: I do want to add that the buzz is inconsistent. Sometimes the amp is near silent and other times it's like a cicada on hot day (that's an exaggeration, but you get the get idea). Dylan did confirm that it isn't bad for the amps (ie, it isn't a sign of the amp having trouble or that it will have a shorter life).

IMO, Buckeye should give you a replacement amp, if it's bothering you

Alright, as some here can testify, I often help members with Hypex/Puruif amp issues, but you are within warranty and a return period with Buckeye.

Yes, but his is the Purifi 9040 thread, its not a random lower price module.

The killer specs about this amp is mostly low noise and high DR.
A buzz totally defeats that.

Probably a PSU thing, hopefully easily fixable with some non-corrosive/conductive RTV or similar.

another data point, ive got 4 of these monos, none of them has ever buzzed. hopefully Dylan gets you taken care of.

Sorry for short reply, had beeen traveling all day.

Regarding the buzz, it can be common on various different builds (not just the Micro Audio SMPS/1ET9040BA amps). But not at the level being described here. More that, if you were to take the top of the case off, you may hear a very faint buzz, you may hear nothing at all. Never so serious to be an auditory distraction that far away...the only other case was someone using an amp nearfield on the PC desktop who could hear a faint buzz during pitch quiet and this instance wasn't an MA/9040 but a Hypex SMPS build.

I will definitely see why this instance is so loud/noticeable, especially as it did not occur during testing before shipping out (yes, we do QC testing).

I don't believe so. It's higher pitched than 60Hz - It's more of a whining sound akin to what I would associate with a failing capacitor.

No. But that's my fault. The amps are in the basement and the speakers are on the main floor, so I can live with the situation. There are a few reasons for my slowness.

First, I’m in Canada, so everything is more of a PITA. I dread the idea of dealing with getting the amp back and forth to Dylan, so I’ve been putting it off… It’s like a toothache in my mind that I just live with because I don’t want to go to the dentist.

Second, I was really hoping to find some pattern or causality - like if the AC was running or whatever. The best I can surmise is that when the amp turns on, it is quiet for the first 2–3 hours. Then it buzzes for about 2 hours. Then it quiets down again. If I leave the amp on 24/7, it seems to settle down and end up quiet.

Basically, I have workarounds that have made me complacent, but I still have to get the amp swapped.
