What makes it sound "magical?"

You keep coming back to it and listen to the music more and more. You're outside of home thinking "daymn, I want to go back and listen to my music."

You keep being in wonder how good everything sounds, you're involved with the music. It flows and envelops you, you want to hear it louder and louder.

With class-d that never happens, it's always "hm, what's wrong with this, why is it so strange sounding?" "This sounds hard/harsh, it's boring."

Only one class-d peaked my interest, FOSI BT20a PRO with 35V/5A PSU. Using 48V/10A PSU made it sound closed/boring/unnatural again.

I have it now permanently connected to one of my speakers with the lesser 35V PSU.
Fair enough. Some of us believe audio is technology, science and engineering. Some seem to believe it is magic. On the other hand, there is Clarke's Third Law. "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." - well, at least if you don't understand the technology.

Ah yes, how to pretend we don't know what magic we are talking about. Point to you, Sir.

For those with cheaper tickets, we are talking about magic of listening and enjoying the music. You remember, the reason we have amps in the first place? Not to measure them, but to enjoy the music? The magic of art? Yes, that kind of magic.

The subjective "magic" is stuff I would expect to find on a subjectivist audiophile forum, but not here.

Rule 1: In all cases, the "magic" is created in your mind, not in your electronics.
Rule 2: For some, what you believe is "magic" others call distortion.

And by the way, it is said that the room itself contributes up to 50% or more of the sound you actually hear at the listening position with acoustics, reflections, and speaker placement often having a greater impact on the final sound than the audio equipment itself. Tell us about your room measurements and your acoustic treatments, other than the rug.

And for that, psychedelic drugs (or even just alcohol) is much more effective than anything you could do the electronics...

Ah yes, same room, different amps, different sound, but it is the room?

Why JBL Array 1400 create magic with 2xTopping LA90 discrete monoblocks but there is nothing but mess with 2xFosi v3 monos? Same room.

Sure -- you are referring to the emotionally potent power a beautiful musical performance has, all the more captivating as the (perceived) sound improves. That is magic, indeed, emotionally involving magic in my case.
Wouldn't it also be "magical" to have some sort of measurement or "palpable indication" that correlates magic and device? That way, we can strive to make that magic repeatable!
I.e. why is there magic with amp A + X PS and boredom with amp A + Y PS.
All I'm saying is, it could help take expensive guessing out of the equation

Differences in frequency response perhaps, or your own subconscious biases?

And (/or) some measurable differences in performance of the two amplification devices affecting the performance of the specific speakers. After all it's the amps + speaker combo that is being referred to.
I am not doubting @dcolak (whatever tickles your fancy rules!), but it would be interesting to blind test it.

That sounds good, what company did you buy those Purifi's from? Thanks!

Edit: I just noticed it's Buckeye. Do you think Apollon products are better measurement/power wise?
Buckeye … no frills, no fancy case, no gimmicks, just Purifi-ed audio amplification performance

Buckeye is right across the border from me. Fast shipping. No brainer. Dylan handled everything very professionally. I didn’t really care much about case, binding posts, fuses, etc. To me it makes no difference tbh … although I see nothing wrong with what Buckeye provides

Just out of curiosity, when was the last time you did a proper, controlled double blind listening test?

Oh I would pay for someone to be able to measure it and say "there it is! that's what is different." I am certain we're missing some kind of meassurement. It's not just me, friends, family, they all had similar observations without me saying a single word about it.

So I guess the first thing you did was try a double-blind listening test, right?

So be glad that you have normal friends and family who are able to read your non-verbal cues.

Every couple of weeks for kicks and giggles I try some of the amps that didn't make it for me: Dayens Ampino, Virtue Audio Two, Yamaha P5000s, Fosi v3 monos... try to live with them and.. no go, it just sounds wrong/harsh or "muted." Go back to correct combination and everything falls in place.

Using Dayens Ampino on JBL S412P was surpisingly bad. Once I put Pioneer SA9800 on them sound become live-correct. What is strange, JBL S412P's are 6 inch three ways, no reason for them to require big power. Yet again, Dayens Ampino just sounded muted... ‍

I know of no reason for that to happen, if freq response and THD are all that matters (power did not matter in this case).

Are you serious? You would preffer believing in mind reading rather than entertaining the idea that we are missing to measure something? Really?

So, as I assumed, sighted listening, so just confirming your beliefs/expectations. Have you ever done a proper double-blind listening test.

Are you serious? You never read the facial and body language of your family and friends? Instead you assume there is some hidden message? Really?
