This BUCKEYE 9040 amp wins the ugliest design award by far. But, Purifi 9040 is certainly quality hardware.

I wonder what is causing the NINE evenly distributed 10-15dB distortion spikes in the 50 to 8KHz range? Any idea?
Likely not audible but NOT what I would expect from Purifi design team?

Why say such a cruel thing to someone's proud artwork? I get it's not your style, and that's fine, but to tell @Buckeye in his own forum that his products are the ugliest is just mean and cruel, imho.

Prices shown on Apollon website are net of VAT and shipping.
VAT (in my case 19% German VAT) was added when I placed my order.

Oh it doesn't bother me at all

You truly are a better man than I, Dylan. I would be bothered for days on end. Its ok if my artwork is not to someone's taste, but I would never go to an art exhibit one nice evening and tell the artist their artwork is ugliest there ever was ... to their face ... in public view of everyone! Who does things like that?

Should I need it, I would buy your product, in a shot Dylan! However, being UK based, I imagine that you would recommend that I purchased the Nord equivalent!
I would recommend boXem if you want to purchase from someone within the EU.

Dylan, that's the right attitude!

Quite apart from the fact that the appearance of enclosures is completely overrated in this thread – no, we're not talking about reviews of ladies' or men's handbags here – the majority of your customers is obviously absolutely happy with your enclosures.

For me, living in Germany, buying Hifi equipment from the USA is currently too much hassle, and yes – my Apollon 9040ETs come in a high-gloss piano lacquer enclosure which I really love – but that enclosure was never a deciding factor in my purchase and I would have at least considered Buckeye Amps if you would be based in Europe!

I think Dylan's boring box has become a marketing strategy. Everyone keeps talking about it!

It seems that the best "geographical" options are Buckeye in the US (and Canada?), Nord in the UK (and Europe), and Audiophonics in France (and Europe).
Other USA Class D options include D-Sonic (Pascal based) and Speaker Power who just came out with an 8-channel ICE Power based amp to join their outstanding rack based subwoofer amp offerings. These are both fine options, but I would say Buckeye delivers the best price-to-performance ratio and great service.

I think this is an excellent implementation of the 9040 fwiw, including the more robust power supply. Nicely done. I'm not fan of the aesthetic personally but the case selection rationale provided by Dylan upthread is entirely sensible.

I rather like the Boxem Arthur style (haven't checked their offerings lately) but being in Oz I'd look at local bloke March Audio—at least until the troubles in the US have passed—who fortunately delivers similar quality. I'm not in any urgent need of an amp so it's somewhat academic.

March Audio, like Buckeye, use a better SMPS allowing the full capability of the 9040 amplifier module. More expensive, or significantly more expensive than Buckeye amps depending on import duties etc. they do offer more elegant case design and an extended warranty of 5 years or optionally 10 years - this latter at extra cost.

Has anyone tried/used any icepower PSU to see if compatible?
They can do 2.4kW on paper (silly burst/peak of course, the same way we spec amps) and they have all the certifications, PFC, etc.

Lowest is 57 47V though I think, don't know what 9040 uses.

I don't think that was about the artwork, but the case eh @amper42? Plain and utilitarian would be a more accurate description. At the other end we have fancy cases from Dan D'Agostino etc-a LOT of $$$$ to tooling amortization. I'd just be hiding the amps anyway, I don't have a rack any more. Maybe someone can start a beautiful wrap/overenclosure to put over the top of these ha ha. Or one could drill out the front and attach salvaged McIntosh VU meters!

@amirm, the 1.4kW spec you listed for the 2R load is for a 0.1%THD per the Purifi datasheet. The 1.6kW measurement you made is for 1% THD, so the amp does not exceed the rated spec by 200 watts as insinuated. Purifi does NOT spec their 9040BA modules at 1% THD, only at 0.1%THD. But their lesser power modules are spec'd at 1% THD. Not sure if you still have the amp, but what is its power at 0.1% THD into 4R and 2R?

Hello, I need an amplifier for my Dynaudio Confidence C1 speakers. The room is 38 m² and the listening distance is about 4 m. I am seriously considering a Class D amplifier. What I care about most is perfect control of the bass driver so it can reproduce frequencies around 30 Hz without any issues. It seems that typical commercial amplifiers class AB are not sufficient for this.

I am not a technician — could the problem be related to output current? Would the AUDIOPHONICS AP300-S500NC handle this, or would it be more reasonable to go for the latest Purifi, even though it is significantly more expensive?
