Buckeye Amps: Purifi 1ET6525SA (the successor to the 1ET400A)

Of course, totally understand but did you ever send your 1ET7040SA v2 amp to Amir for review, would have been great to see the measurements?
Actually no, it just never came up/a customer never requested their unit to be sent in.

Edit: I take that back, we did send one in around this time last year but Amir had a very long backlog so by the time he finally got to it we had just added the capacitor PCB add-on option and rather then wait even longer for their build to be updated and get back in the review queue, the customer canceled it.

Hello,

Can you hear a difference between the Purifi 1ET6525SA and the Hypex NCx500 amplifier? If no why sell 3 modules?
What is the biggest difference explained in normal language between the modules?

Thanks.

Between those two modules, no audible difference. We offer both so people can have choices that may come down to something as simple as wanting to stick with Hypex to pair with other Hypex multichannel amplifiers.

The only major "differences" to note (outside of measurement level differences like distortion and noise floor which are both at SOTA levels) is the extra wattage of the Hypex NCx500 but even then it isn't anything likely to be audible.

@Buckeye Amps Now that Purifi have officially announced the 1ET6525SA on their website, I guess the preliminary specs were slightly incorrect regarding the power rating of 480W at 4 Ohms, it is now 450W which I see you've now adjusted, surely it's an inconsequential difference but was curious to note that the 4 Ohm spec was initially much greater than simply a doubling of output power from 230W8R to 480W4R although there is still a slight error on their website concerning 250W8R & their datasheet with the correct 230W8R rating.

Good news! 1ET6525SA pre-orders are finally shipping. I am burning my way through the first module shipment Purifi sent me and hope to have the next shipment from Purifi early next week. Once those are received, should have all pre-orders shipped before/beginning of December at the latest.

Curious to know if you can share. What is the quality control process from Purifi, and Buckeye? Is Purifi testing 100% of modules or batch testing? Is the testing manual or automated? Is Buckeye testing 100% of amps, or batch testing?

Each module is QC marked/verified from Purifi (I have never inquired about their actual QC process, however). And then each amp is tested by us before shipping out.
Since offering Purifi, I can count on one hand how many modules (not amps, just single modules) have been faulty.

Short answer - no. Long answer - theoretically it's possible. Ascend says it can handle 350 watts. I mean you could be trying to play these at ear bleed levels in a huge room - if so, you might as well have the extra watts. It's a 2 decibel difference at any realistic listening distance.

Max Continuous Power*350 watts
Max Short Term Peak Power*500 watts

Most likely not. With the 9040BA monoblock, there isn't much motivation to offer the 6525SA as a monoblock, especially since the outgoing 400A monoblock configuration was not very popular.

The 2ch configuration is the perfect sweet spot instead of a pair of monoblocks.
I am going out on a limb and assuming that a 2 channel Hypex NCx500, Monoblock Hypex NCx500, 2 channel 1ET6525SA, monoblock 1ET6525SA will be similiar in terms of power and clarity but how does the above compare to a monoblock 1ET9040BA or monoblock NC2K?

My new 3 channel 1ET6525SA Buckeye amp for my theater just showed up! It'll be hanging off a Denon X4800H to power my Philharmonic HT Towers and Center. There is probably some over-kill here, but I needed external amps to do Atmos anyway, so why not go big!?

Delivery time was exactly as advertised (3 weeks). I'm super excited to get this hooked up!

Also, 8.3 lbs is ridiculous for this thing!

Has this happened yet and what are your thoughts? I'm about to pull the trigger for my X4800 setup :) .

Yes, it happened! :)

I haven't ran a re-calibration yet due to time, so instead I did a quick and crude levels adjustment by running REW sweeps. With the amp on high-gain, I had to boost the 3 channels about 4.5 dB to get the same levels in my sweeps at the MLP as the on-board Denon amps. For connections I just used Monoprice XLR > RCA cables. Setup was otherwise easy and without issue.

Next month I have 4 atmos speakers coming, which will extend my current 7.4 setup to 7.4.4. The X4800H only has 9 amps, so I needed 2 more channels of amplification no matter what. The cheap route would have been to grab a cheap Topping/Fosi/Aiyama/etc. 2 channel amp, and just use it for two of the new atmos speakers. However, I was worried about the Denon's ability to power all 9 onboard amps effectively at reference level during demanding scenes with the fronts and the center included in the mix. This is why I chose to get amps to the front 3 instead, and will use the onboard amps for the 8 surround/atmos speakers. I chose this specific amp because I wanted end-game and reliability, knowing it's overkill, and because I've been watching Dylan on here for years and wanted to support his business. Mostly, however, I had room in my theater budget and wanted it.

I was not expecting veils lifted, spaces opened, new depths of detail, or any of that kind of stuff, so I didn't bother to do any "critical listening" comparisons with the Denon, and instead just rolled with the assumption that there should likely be no audible difference.

Great, thanks for the update. Couple of points if not aware already:
1) Did you disconnect the Denon built-in amps? Its been a LONG time since I read the x4800 reviews here, but IIRC preamp out gain is higher/cleaner with them disconnected.
2) For level adjust, I personally would use the built in test tones (or something like the Spears test DVD, etc.). They are bandwidth limited to freq's where our ears are most sensitive to level.

1. No, I did not disconnect them, yet. I noticed during my original setup of the Denon that if I changed anything in the speaker layout config, it would invalidate the Dirac calibration and it gets cleared out. I noticed this when I changed something else (maybe sub setup or something), and from there I just assumed it applies to anything in that menu, including switching the preout/speaker toggle as well. I don't know this for a fact, so I don't want to flip that switch until it is also a convenient time to re-calibrate anyway. When that happens, I'll drop back in here and report the effect on levels.
2. Now that you mention it, I did actually use test tones mainly. I leveled with tones and verified with REW sweeps.
