Buckeye Amps: Hypex NCx500 Official Thread

That thing is like a toaster oven!
I have a Series X on the bottom of my open front Salamander stand. The shelf above it has my 6ch 502MP amp. When watching movies at reference with the Xbox off, the amp never reports temps above 85/86F with active cooling.

With the Xbox on below it and just listening at normal volume while playing a game, the amp temp gets up to 97F just from the amount of heat the Xbox puts out below it.

While I don't have an xbox yet, the PS5 has a built in design feature to prevent overheating...

It takes up a Metric Fcuk-Ton-and-a-half of space whereas the xbox doesn't.

Built in dumb-a$s-proof cooling feature?

I really need to get myself a Bethesda-Gaming Machine, though.

If we get the unit without any gain switch, the gain options can still be set with jumpers?

From the website: The gain stage can be switched via internal jumpers by the customer if future setups dictate the need to change.

So the gain switches are always on the back of the amp. If you select the Buckeye gain stage at checkout, the switches work (low, med, high). If you select Hypex gain stage, the switches are inactive (fixed internal gain)

And the jumpers work regardless of the choice?

Yes, the internal. I don't need it. I would order it open, without the buckeye stage. But could the next owner adjust the gain with internal jumpers?
