"Bright" tracks

One does wonder what speakers/EQ target curve were used to mix and master it.
Probably made for small bookshelf speakers or boom boxes. I've heard a lot of top 40 music that's better mixed and mastered than this.

relatively or rather (? :)) bright, lots of cymbal energy in forte parts:
(quite interesting album though)

Mercury Rev - The Funny Bird (1998)

Post some nice examples of tracks with elevated/"exaggerated" trebles. Some that you feel sound too bright on a neutral speakers/headphones and can become "problematic/annoying" on those with treble emphasis. Material sometimes referred to in reviews like "already bright tracks".
For testing female vocal sibilance I play
Sweet Jane (Cowboy Junkies).

One of the most absurdly shrill and hollow metal recordings. It's problematic even in the neutral speakers, totally unusable in the more forward tuned ones.

Boston's eponymous/debut album.
When it was new (ahem a long time ago) -- we had a black cat called The Bear.
The Bear used to like to sit with me and listen to music. She was not very particular... except... if I put on Boston, she would go elsewhere for the duration.

It was truly an ear-gouger, at least on vinyl. Columbia, in those days, put out a number of pop/rock records that were pretty screechy. :(
I know this post is some years back but just seen it.

I've owned that album on vinyl since the early 80s and on CD since - I don't know when, ten years at least. It's always sounded good to me on literally hundreds of different combinations of equipment and rooms (I've moved house a lot!) on both formats.

Also seen it criticised for other sonic reasons than brightness. For me it's one of those albums I never use to test the sound of a system since it still sounds good even on a pig's ear of a set-up.

Interesting that there should be such a discrepancy of opinion.

Edit - your cat probably objected to the schmaltz of 'More Than A Feeling.' :)
