Bought an IEC711 coupler, what should I know?

Hi again...

I just want to show that I finished my testrig.
I will name it SuperHeadRig (ShR) just for the fun :)

It's usefull for testing EQ/DSP curves. (On the KZ CastorPro one can see that there is a bass boost on the curves, created with some dip-switches on them)
I didn't try any real distortion measurement for now, but I guess that the IEC clone is not up for it, but let's see.
The repeatable insert/out etc... is good enough also.

I use one diy calibration file for IEM's / TWS's and another for real headphones. I AVG'ed the LEFT/RIGHT calibration, so I don't need to change them all the time.

It's a nice toy to have for sure.

Have a good day.

Hi all,

I’ve been following the posts from @staticV3 and @Lykkedk in this thread, and their explanations have been very helpful.
Thanks to their contributions, I now have a clearer picture of what is realistic to expect from a 711-style clone.

I want to be able to do left/right channel balance checks, relative loudness matching, and to experiment with modding the Hifiman HE6seV2.

What I want to achieve:
  • repeatable FR shape
  • reliable pre/post mod differences
  • seal/clamp consistency
  • pad/damping change detection (repeatable)
  • results that roughly follow known HE6 community curves
What I don’t care about:
  • distortion accuracy
  • perfect absolute FR
  • IEPE/CCLD microphones
  • dual-ear rigs
  • full HATS geometry
  • expensive lab equipment

Rig layout:
  • IEC711 clone positioned behind a silicone pinna
  • Headband supported by a simple stand
  • The other earcup floating freely
  • DIY cal file matched to known HE6 community FR
  • REW + standard audio interface (Scarlett/Behringer/Motu)
Does this setup make sense? Any obvious improvements?

Questions:
  • What exact model/version of IEC711 clone (electret version) should I order?
  • Which specific AliExpress silicone pinna listing do you recommend?
  • Is VXLR+ still the right adapter for these current clones?
As a side note: I also own DUNU 2000J and DUNU SA6, so I can use them as reference IEMs for sanity-checking the DIY calibration if that helps.

Hi...

I bought this one Sounds good store, It should be biased below 10V as also stated in the description from the seller.
Having this IEC711 coupler with the Røde phantom to 3.5mm. converter into —-> an 35dB phantom power mic. input unit (Cosmos APU) as I wrote earlier :)

I cannot recommend any artificial pinna, as I build my own rig, but I think if you buy one from one of the good sellers, it will be good enough.

Good luck; Jesper...
