While browsing the web, I came across a Chinese forum that featured bookshelf speakers that seemed promising. By pure chance, I stumbled upon them on Aliexpress during the French Days and was able to get them at a reasonable price.
So I thought, why not share a little thread about those speakers )))
The model in question is the Mark Evans No. 5 whose specs are as follows:
Spec :
2 way passive Bookshelf
5 inch long stroke Woofer with cast aluminum base
Wave guide Tweeter (Teteron)
Rated Impedance 4R
Frequency response 48HZ-25KHZ (+-3db)
Frequency division point : 2.1KHZ
Sensitivity : 87db/1m/2,83V
Colors : Walnut / Ebony or BlackWood
Enclosure : High density MDF with L shaped internal brace / rounded edges
Internal absorbing material : Polyester Fiber
Bass port with hole sponge (for port tuning)
Size : 300mm x 420mm x 280mm
Weight : 6,5KG / unit
So I had fun inspecting them and disassembled each component. I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the assembly (considering I've owned a lot of speakers, including the Audio First Design Fidelia, the Elac DB53, Polk R100, etc.).
I can therefore confirm that, considering the quality/price ratio: we are dealing with very, very well-finished speakers. (see pictures)
You'll see below how they compare to the Elac Debut DB53, for example )
I haven't had time to take any measurements via Wiim RoomFit yet, but I will do so as soon as possible with my calibrated Micro Umik.
However, I took the time to measure the thicknesses of the cabinets and take several detailed pictures. At this price, I've rarely seen speakers made with this level of quality; the internal bracing is positioned vertically, just like on the AudioFirstDesign Fidelia. The front panels are 2.11cm thick and the rear panels are 1.54cm thick, while the internal brace reinforcement is 1.85cm thick.
It's worth noting that the acoustic damping materials are very well positioned and exude quality.
The quality of the crossover, woofers and cabinets is excellent, I really think there was a lot of thought put into it beforehand.
As for the most important question: how do they sound? I'll take the time to give them a long listen on my playlist and get back to you with some details. I've only listened to them for an hour so far, and I really liked the feeling I got.
